This happened in SVG as well, Nice Radio was sued because of a caller who called in on one of their programs. The caller said something that offended the leader of the Government.

Greetings All When I was under 10 yrs old, my sister said to a friend who said someone had insulted her “An insult is NOT what is said but HOW it is taken” I have lived by that and have rarely been “Insulted.” I cannot believe that my gurl is a part of this tomfoolery.😢

When feelings start to become over-prioritised and taking offense is rewarded and seen as a right rather than part of everyday existence, is when society will start to unravel at the seams. Barbadians are thin-skinned already, unable to handle anything that could be considered offensive. If this bill passes, this will bring out the narcissist in everyone with everyone believing that their feelings and right not to be offended is more imporant than the next person's. It will be a race to see who can get more offended than who and pretty soon, the court system will be backlogged with frivilous offense cases, placing more pressure on an already burdened legal system. The average Barbadian will devolve into a common crybaby, taking offense at any turn with the hope of a judge awarding them up to $70,000. Since anyone can take offense to anything, I see this legislation as having a high potential for abuse. Is this what becoming a republic was supposed to accomplish? The curtailing of freedoms and rights especially to appease a certain sociopolitical class? Politicians are the ones who require the most criticism as their feet need to be held to the fire to ensure that the people's work is properly and judiciously done. They are not kings nor gods and don't deserve to be exhaulted as such. Tourism will suffer when potential visitors learn that Barbados has taken its first step towards autocracy. Putin and Kim Jong Un would be proud.
