I have a non-multiscale Ibanez SRC6 Crossover. I drilled out the first three low string ferrules and pathways so that I could put heavier gauge bass strings on it. I use it as a bass guitar, tuned low B to high C. It sounds great and is so easy to play and get around on.

I got another Guitarbass, more similar to Fender Bass VI. I use it as an hybrid in my hc band, mostly as a picked bass but also for 4 strings movable chords on the D and G string. I think these hybrids are great instruments and I’m considering this Ibanez along with a couple models from Schecter for my next purchase. Thanks for the insight on sound physics, I already got that it didn’t work on some low intervals and now I know why. Glad this video made me know your channel, I’m following you from now on 💯👍🏻⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Essentially a modern take on the Fender VI. Could be a cheap-ish alternative for us Cure fans, though the fanned frets don't exactly go with that (on the "visual" side of things I mean).

And a fan of low tuned metal, but not a lover of 7 and 8 strings. The best thing to make a huge improvement is changing the strings. I have the non multi scale version and it came with the 84-24. I put on a 90-19 (winspear strings) and it plays much better with heavier E and lighter top strings. With the multi scale I reckon getting 95-24. Just getting a slightly tighter bottom E makes a huge difference.
@NikolaNovak
@NikolaNovak 8 ай бұрын
Hi! On the off chance you may read this, can you help me understand what difference the strings make? I got the SRC6MS and love it for the crazy thing that it is, but I find the low E is a bit buzzy, and extremely sensitive to fretting strength/depth -- I can bend it almost a semitone just by pushing harder! Would different strings help with either? Are there sacrifices - any reason why Ibanez might've gone with the strings they have? Thx muchly! :)
@-processdrone-
@-processdrone- 6 ай бұрын
@@NikolaNovak this is exactly why the low strings need heavier gauges. Thing is virtually no one puts 84 on a 4 string bass for "E" so ... why the heck would you do it on a 6 string?!?!? fatter low end strings seem very logical. but beware this is not a "fix all" . A check for high frets, and a good set up are also essential. I'm just suggesting a good first step.

@@NikolaNovak sorry for the late reply. A thicker gauge string means it will be tighter for the same tuning and therefore less likely to rattle against your frets as much. You do have to have a lighter approach to this instrument I find. You can always level frets to improve this as well but I don't know much about that kind of thing.

The Schecter Hellcat VI is like this without the fanned frets... which is a take on the old Fender VI bass. I like the fanned frets for tighter bass strings. Very cool. As a guitarist I like my Hellcat Vi and every guitar player who has tried it likes it, bass players...not so much. It can also be restrung as a baritone guitar.

From a carpenters perspective, a 3 piece body can be better than one made from a single piece. If done right in regard to the wood grain, a 3 piece body will warp far less over time. And I have never seen any evidence that a few tightly glued joints have any influence on tone whatsoever. My Yamaha RGX 121D is almost 30 years old and was subjected to many brutal temperature/humidity changes. It never complained...

It took me and a sound man friend 5 minutes + , listening to a true 3rd , neither major or minor , on my fretless bass to break the programming the well tempered scale instills . Once we aclimated ourselves to it , the major and minor sounded sharp and flat , as they really are. They are the most off pitch notes of the well tempered scale.

Hmm, I feel I'm missing something - all the comments talking about "not a real bass" or "not tuned as a bass" - it is my understanding that this IS a bass in its low four strings, with than another two high strings added? Am I wrong? I.e. if you play the Low-E on this, and Low-E on the standard 4-string bass... it's the same note/octave/frequency, no? 🤔 (therefore I don't understand the comments that say "now make this in 4-string version" - that's just... a regular bass, innit? $100 on Kijiji? 🤷‍♂)

Do you mean standard six string bass as BEADGC? The answer is probably no because of the shorter scale length. I have a five string with a 34” scale length and the low B is already a bit flubby. However if you mean standard bass tuning, EADG as in a four string bass for the low four strings then the answer is yes because that is the exact tuning.
