In this video I am trying out bandmate and seeing what I can figure out. It is definitely a great new addition to the program! I can bandmate making writing a lot easier in the future, especially for odd time signatures. I hope you enjoy the video and get something out of it.

Tip: you can drag the audio from Logic to your desktop, which will create an audio file. You can then drag that audio file from the desktop straight to the Bandmate in EZdrummer 3 (which can be an insert in Logic) :-)

Great video. I use Studio One Professional 5 w/ EZD3- Workflow is exactly like yours. Get a riff I like and bring it into EZD3-once I have a full song I will drag the guitar audio in and then select the song structure-ABAB for example. I'm either in 4/4 or 3/4 time. 99% of the time, after I import the guitar audio in-it spits out what I want to hear. Do I have to tweak the chorus or bridge parts-Yes, but the most important part is the song structure. Once you get a song structure you are off to the races!! Best regards on a great informative video!

i really cant get over the fact that you need to create a audiofile first and drop it in. I dont feel like this is good workflow. Also, if you wanna change something, you have to do it all over again. Specially if you trying to discover something and still changing up stuff to get a mood for it. it seems so overly complicated in my head. Btw, will Bandmate detect odd time signatures like 7/8 4/7 6/8 or stuff like that?
@BillLau
@BillLau Жыл бұрын
Other people have told me that you can drag in audio in other DAWS. Logic does not allow you to drop in audio straight from Logic. At least not from anything I’ve been able to do. Sadly, I don’t think it detects odd time signatures. I could be wrong but I usually set the time signatures in Logic beforehand. Thanks for checking out the video and thanks for the comment.

I haven’t been able to do it like that either. I basically use it to find pieces and drop them into my DAW. I do my writing primarily in the DAW. I haven’t had a lot of luck using band mate for that stuff.

I was close to buy the upgrade. But shortly before I was wondering if it could do old school metal as well? If not it would be money burnt for me. So how would the drums to a Slayer/Dark Angel/Possessed-etc Riffing sound via bandmate?
@BillLau
@BillLau 2 жыл бұрын
They sell different drum packs that have various drum sounds. I think the metal kit sounds pretty good. Honestly, you would be able to adjust the MIDI if you wanted more bass drum or cymbals etc. it’s very customizable. If you can think of a drum beat, it is programmable and possible. Might take a little practice. As far as sticking a speed metal riff into band mate…might be a cool thing to try out.

Does anyone know how you create your guitar file using Reaper to use with Ez Drummer 3 band mate? I can’t find any videos of anyone using Reaper with EZD3 any links would help a lot and be much appreciated thanks
@BillLau
@BillLau Жыл бұрын
Good question, the way it works for me is I create a guitar track in logic and dump it to mp3. Seems like a lot because it kind of is. I’m not sure if reaper would allow you to drag the guitar file into band mate without first making it an mp3. Kind of strange but that’s kind of how it worked for me. Some people using other DAWs were able to drag their tracks in from the DAW. I can’t with logic and I’m not 100% on reaper but I doubt it. If anyone else knows please feel free to let us know. Thank you.
@RealGrover
@RealGrover 11 ай бұрын
It works in Reaper, but - at least on Mac OS - not per default. You need to configure your mouse behaviours so that one modifier combination for left drag on a media item is set to „open source file in editor“. That must sound like gibberish to non-Reaper users, but basically you customise what happens when you click and drag (with or without some key modifier like shift/option/command) stuff in Reaper (similar to how you can customise key commands in Logic, but for the mouse) and one of the available options is this. Not all plugins support it, but EzDrummer3 does. Weird thing is, it doesn‘t seem to work with MIDI directly from Reaper‘s arrange view.

I think band mate is cool and a step forward but because it generates hits on your playing i dont feel it is really worth as much as it has been toted around as being.....let me give you an example....if you played the opening riff to war pigs the very simple...da..dun...D5 to E5....would band mate play those cool 8th note hi hat hits inbetween the spaces....to call it a band mate...bit to far....

No. Most likely not. However, it gives you a decent starting point. You still have to have some sense of musical skill and rhythm. I enjoy taking the piece it gives you and altering it to be your own. Thanks for the comment, not a bad point.

How does Band mate compare to Apple drummer
@BillLau
@BillLau Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the question….apple drummer is a little more intuitive with creation of a beat but it’s similar with adding more bass drum or hi hat by moving a slider. I’m not sure which one works better, apple has the different drummer personalities with the individual drummers.

I’m sorry for your frustration. The purpose of my video was for me to play with band mate for the first time. I wanted to do a video of me going through things as I normally would the first time I launch a program. I was learning where stuff was and yes there are things from EZD2 that I was never familiar with. I never claimed to be an expert on EZD3. I just wanted to share my findings and occasionally my friendly subscribers and nice people such as yourself will point out things I didn’t know. We all learn from each other. This is a community. Thanks for the constructive criticism. Typically I plan out what I do before I film but as it said in the title “discovering” band mate. So it was my first time looking at it.
