I’ve been asked quite frequently over the years, how to navigate the transition into adulthood when one has African parents & this video is an attempt to answer that. By sharing my experiences, I am trying to show that what is ultimately needed is wisdom from God on how to proceed because every person’s situation is unique.
“Honor your father and mother. Then you will live a long, full life in the land the Lord your God is giving you.” (Exodus‬ ‭20:12‬)

When it was time for me to move out of my parents house, I kept on hearing "And Abraham left his father's house" from many men of God. Like I will be listening to a preacher and the next thing is " and Abraham....I started wondering why I was hearing this word repeatedly. One day I was in church and the pastor also repeated that statement and added Micah 2:10 . I became scared. To cut the long story short, God told me to go and study Chinese language and 1year into studying the language, a job came that took me out of my father's house.

I still live with my parents (I’m 20) and sometimes I’d say today I’m going to stay in my room and pray all day but one of my parents or my brothers would come and start looking good for me. Or if I’m fasting they’ll be asking me why I haven’t eaten. So it’s hard to be separated and when you live in a large family. But God will always make a way ❤️

As long as God is still keeping you with them for this period, just know that it's part of the process that God is using to mould you into what he wants you to be .. This is really helpful. I want to cry. Even though we have different lives. It's the same concept. I'm almost 40 living with my parents, never married. There is something that is holding me back from moving out. I'm praying about it and asking God to show me when it's time. It's been hard for me because I do feel alone and I don't know who I can open up to about this. I want to feel like an adult but as you say when you're living at home the parents will just want to treat you like a child. Thank you for the advice. I don't want to be disrespectful to them. Good reminder.

Hi, good evening, first of, sending you lots of hugs. I’ll like to ask: have you had a proper conversation with them on why you need to leave? You need to explain that your growth and self evolving is attached to it. At the end of the day, they want what’s best for you but sometimes the manner/method of going about it is what’s off. Also asides from their approval, can you sustain yourself financially without them? If you can, then I think you’ve solved 80 percent of the issue.

I saved up and took the big leap. You are an adult and there's too much comfort that will breed in you as a result of staying with them at that age. Fellowship with the Holy Spirit on where to move, how to get start, be intentional and purposeful about it: eg. To grow less dependent on your parents and fully dependent on the Person of the Holy Spirit.

This video is everything.🥺 I'm 19 and the pressure to move out is heavy, but I just understood that it may not be in God's will for me. Although my reasons for moving out are quite similar with yours, I know that if it is God's will, it will happen. Thank you for listing the cons too, especially that last one.😂 I binge on Bible Diary from time to time, and it's always a blessing. Thank you and God bless you!💙

I'm turning 21 next month and the pressure too is heavy. I feel living with your parents for a long while gives you this sense of comfort. Once you move out, you'd be pushed to leave your comfort zone in order to meet your needs. I have put this in prayer and i really hope God gives me an answer soon.

Sigh.. hello Ezinne. Thank you for this video. I'm 19 and I'm in the middle of making a decision that my parents 100% do not support. But I know that is what God wants me to do. It's quite a hard one, even for me. But man... I'm convinced that this is what the Lord wants me to do. The whole situation with my parents and the work He has given me has left me really depressed for a few days. Thank you for sharing your experience so far. I am 24 and I honestly don't want to move out of my parents house for now, I may not be where I want to be in life, but I know that I am a work in progress. Moving out is good, however it is not what a young person must pursue without properly analyzing the responsibilities, loneliness and struggles associated with it. If you are not convinced or you are not desiring to move out, please do not move it, because 'streets dey hard', but if you want to move out make sure that you have a worthy reason for doing so. I pray that God will direct us Amen Thank you ezinne for your sharing. God Bless You.🙏

A very timely video. I'm 19 and have been wanting to move out because I feel like I do immature stuff because I have the safety net of my parents. But I'm the first child and everyday, I realize that a lot is riding on me and I can't achieve a lot in my parents house. I want to leave so I can learn to be mature and explore. But I have been wondering if it's the right time. Thankfully, this video has confirmed a lot. Thanks Ezinne

I totally relate. Home isn't exactly fun, it's triggering and even makes my spiritual life to falter. I just graduated and am 22 and I do not want to go back home. I actually wrote a letter to my parents telling them that I want to look for a job cos the few times I have worked, they stopped me. It's not easy, if I go back home I won't be able to attend church the way I have been doing. I'm from a Catholic home and I go to Winners in school and it help my christian and spiritual growth and my mum is strongly against it. And sometimes I don't even know what to do..... I actually prayed to get a job, so that I won't have to go home

HolySpirit is wonderful! I'm sure I was led to watch you this morning; I've been sharing my lows and highs, my struggles since I got saved, I've been looking crazy doing it because many Christians don't do it and everyone is like be careful what you say; but then, I can't, I literally can't do without sharing my mistakes. I also finally left my mum's few months back and I'm trusting God for a place of my own.

I don't live alone literally but sort of, just I and my sister stay together, and yes I go out more often than I did back home, being able to go out alone without anyone needing to escort me gives me a sense of independence cause I could remember when I was back home if I just wanted to Cross gate to buy something omo the interrogation 🤣🤣 but living alone is sometimes lonely but it helped me rely more on God, and I can say since I moved away from home, my relationship with my heavenly father has really gotten better, also very grateful that I found your KZfaq channel earlier this year, it has really been helping too. God bless you ezinne ❤️💯

I remember binge reading bible diary and I was super excited cause it answered literally all my questions and doubt at that time. I felt the Christian journey was hard because those I would look up to and those that would preach and advice on being a Christian and how to live were already established and nobody was talking about the struggles they faced until I came across Bible diary and it made me understand better and I thank God.

I got saved a few years back and as a new convert, we don't know the reality behind being a Christian. We kind of think it all Rosey. Maybe because people hardly talk about their experiences. I was kind of lost and frustrated for almost 3years until I begin to ask questions with God's grace and mercy this year has come with a lot of amazing revelations for me. To everyone out there who is confused like I was, you are not alone. Start asking questions and you will see growth in your Christian life. Of course, the Bible is your medium for answers don't joke with it.

great points raised (as usual lol :) ) I would just add that living with your parents doesn't always mean that you are not living as a true adult. I think it has more to do with your ability to make mature, independent decisions. Living apart and financial independence helps with that lol. but when that can't happen for the time being, one can still "adult" :) hope that makes sense. At the end of the day, like you said, its all about applying God's wisdom.

Lol I live alone and I can attest to the temptation part. I however like the loneliness maybe because I really like my space. I do miss family especially now because this will be the first Christmas I'll be spending without them. Other than this I would say living alone has actually made me really responsible, aware of my finances and generally accountable for my own stuff.

That part of trying different jobs is the push I needed to make up my mind. Even during the lockdown parents have the image they want of their child. Sometime you hear of a job which they'll be like "you can't be doing that". Plus it's not easy to just be "roaming around" which happens a lot for a Nigerian youth seeking employment. Whether is roaming physically or on the internet. Being on your phone or laptop seems to make.chores materialize out of no where😂😂. Even in 2022, I had to run to my grandma's house to write my award winning story. Best decision ever! I'm Graduating in January, was seriously against working in my State cause I don't want to have any reason to be at home. But I'm sure it will all work out.

My hallelujah belongs to Christ Jesus!!! This is so timely for me. Well Balanced wisdom sis. For anyone wanting to take the leap, have valid reasons and partnering with the Holy Spirit is a MUST..especially for my sisters. For my brothers in Christ I definitely and strongly believe part of your maturity comes from partnering with the Holy Spirit as you move out and learn to effectively/spiritually run your own home before welcoming your help meet into it (Genesis 2:24). And for those who've just moved: always remember, God is our Source and everything/everyone else is a channel. Glory to God ❤

It was confirmed when my Dad agreed and allowed me to go, being an only child & female at that, I thought he would never say yes 🤭 I wasn't really a strong Christian then but looking back at everything now, I can only Thank God and be grateful for the growth. God brought the right people my way that contributed immersely to my spiritual maturity I teach and groom others now in the things of the Lord 🙏

I have quite debated this pros and Cons quite well many times this year Ezinne. But I still believe that I still need to move if I want to move forward with allot of things in my life and have more time. Just trusting God for Financial growth in my business and he is doing it. Thanks allot for this video, it was sent for seriously. Was just looking through some apartments and decided to come to YT for a while and this video shows up. God bless you Ezinne 🌹
