This is DEFINITELY PINZA!! C'mon.. he's having some fun, and he deserved it. Opera is a demanding profession requiring great discipline!!

It is not Pinza, and not the Budapest. Pinza's vibrato was never that heavy nor that wide, and the imitator's Italian accent sometimes drops off, while the real Pinza's Italian accent would have been fully consistent. The quartet did not play with the accuracy and precision the Budapest commanded, and the cellist was clearly not Mischa Schneider, the real Budapest's cellist, who had a much richer sound and a vastly more resonant pizzicato than the cellist of this recording has. (Who can forget the awe-inspiring pizzicatos Mischa unleashed in the second movement of Beethoven's Op. 59 No. 3?) I have heard this recording from another source. The other source has two minutes of instrumental playing before the imitation Pinza begins singing, and plays out a full step lower. (Transfer isssues, anyone?)

Speaking of "definitely". It's definitely not Pinza, as all opera, voice and record experts know since times immemorial, And it's also not the Budapest String Quartet, definitely. Who the string players are will probably never be determined, and for the brillant voice imitator, too, we only have guesses (wild and not so wild) so far. My own conviction is the same as TsarBovov's, and I'm sure it's Salvatore Baccaloni. No "definitely" here, however.
