Yes they are fuel tanks, first arriving from ww2 nazi germany where they had paper tanks with "not a bomb" written on them because citizens would run away from these. They are now a days called drop tanks because when they served their purpose u drop them like a bomb except they don't blow up but most of the time they are not droppepd

How fast do you think they would go about the process if there was a war and they needed to load asap
@filipvidinovski7960
@filipvidinovski7960 4 жыл бұрын
During Six Day War Israelis managed to set new world records in re-arming and re-fueling. They say it looked like a race car pit-stop. They rehearsed the process so well, they reduced the time by an order of magnitude. Therefore, at any given time they kept more planes in the air than their Arab counterparts. It was a big part of their formula of defeating numerically superior oponents.

@colonel 100 wrong. I did this job for 24 years. We can fully load an F-15C with chaff/flare, 940rnds of 20mm, two AIM-9, and six AIM-120 in about an hour or less depending on the crew. Weapons troops are required to certify on all munitions required and will be evaluated bi-monthly to maintain certification. We train to load in combat scenarios all the time. We can reconfigure the whole squadron of aircraft from training configs to full combat loads in 12 hours, but more goes into it than just munitions. When I was stationed in Germany we took a squadron of A-10C and was ready to kick chocks and forward deploy for strike missions in Libya in
@FPTownsend
@FPTownsend 4 жыл бұрын
@colonel 100 unless they are deployed or on alert for missions like Operation Noble Eagle they don't stay loaded with live munitions. Only other time they would have lives is when they are employing them for test or training missions.. When 9/11 happened we were recalled into work and as soon as missiles and 20mm was delivered we start loading as I stated previously.
