Looks like you were flying up the west side of Guam along Tumon Bay. A carrier and its battle group wouldn't sit off the north end of the island. That area is too deep for an anchorage, and is unprotected. Apra Harbor is where a battle group would go, because it's a perfect port that's sheltered, well defended, and impossible to infiltrate via submarine.

Wouldn’t the carrier group be able to fire its own SAMS and defend itself? Two bomber and their ordinance wouldn’t be able to completely saturate it.

It's called STEALTH for a reason. Plus, the cruise missiles fly around 100 feet above the water, sometimes less, to try & get lost in the surface clutter, making them hard to detect & target for defense.

This really depends on how the Chinese attack: use satellites/drones/other intel to pinpoint the flotilla, launch the bombers, then get some minor corrections before launching the missiles from just outside (maybe) detection range of the ships, then make sure the missiles don't go active until the last possible few seconds for final pitbull lock at low altitude. If the ships were not prepared, they could lose vital seconds and perhaps not engage at all until its too late.

@@hiratiomasterson4009not possible. Aegis would see anything airborne. Unclassified info about it describes it as a 200 mile wide, 110,000 feet tall dome of coverage. It sees 360° at all times. And anything larger than the size of a paperclip flying within that range will be picked up. A U.S. ship at sea will never not know they're under attack. It isn't possible to surprise the U.S. Navy. Especially not with sub par stealth from Chinese H-20 and J-20 aircraft. There would be F-22's and F-35's in the air, forming up on the Chinese aircraft, just off their wing, without the Chinese even knowing they are there, because the U.S. would know they're in the airspace long before they got into launch range

@@ObiWanShinobi917 its still hard to detect incoming cruise missiles just feet above the surface of the ocean. The curvature of the earth will only let the radar detect the missiles when they are close by, when seconds to react are crucial. The attacking airplanes could use civilian airplanes to mask their radar signature. And even though its hard to, imagine the crew for some reason were with their alert down, somewhere where they thought they were safe, and fucked up. I don't know, just a fake scenario, could elaborate more.

This was interesting. Air defense was slow in their activation to protect those vessels.Pearl Harbor-ish. Being retired Navy, each of those direct hits on the ship made me wince knowing about 40 guys perished for each hit.

From what we know, the J-20's internal fuel stores as well as the lines are behind the cockpit ABOVE the engine. Protected only by the thin chassis of the plane. It's not very well armored, and so a missile hit on the top side of the plane anywhere near the cockpit is likely to result in the tanks exploding as well, consolidating the death of the pilot. Genius Chinese design, honestly.

I guess that in reality the Chinese planes would have been picked up by American ship radar, seeing that even the much smaller the F22 radar picked them up and the remaining active ship and the Patriot sites fired at them after they left?

Another example of why the U.S. really screwed up by canceling the F-22 after 187 land-based airframes and never developing a naval variant. We've realistically been without a naval air superiority fighter since 2006.
