🙅🏾‍♂I STRONGLY disagree with Tyrin's view on Black director's stepping out and making films that aren't Black / urban based or "Hood films." When you do what the Hughes brother did and make a film about Jack the Ripper aka FROM HELL. Instead of applauding the fact that the hughes were able to switch gears after comin off the success of MENACE. White media questioned their knowledge and expertise on the topic of Jack the Ripper as if two Black men from "the hood" couldn't possibly know enough to make a credible movie, about such a historic / infamous figure. Hollywood as well as mainstream media expect Blacks to make "hood movies." I was never really a fan of the genre or era they were coming out back to back. I saw Menace - thought it was good, but never had a desire to watch those type of films. I personally wanted to see us doing anything, but "hood movies"

I seen him in a HBO action military movie after menace and that shit was garbage. Besides Belly its probably safe to say his range is limited and thats why them ppl wasnt reaching back. They knew what and who they wanted and obviously its wasnt him
