I would imagine it took awhile to get a game going. Feels bad man when you wait a long time for a game and it's over super fast.

It's a valid strategy but the video showcases perfectly as to why i don't touch RTS games online at all, apart from playing friendly matches with friends against AI. The two months i spent trying to get into SC2's online back during the huge Starcraft 2 craze when it came out was a horrible learning experience for me, i played SC1,Warcraft 2,3, Red Alert,Generals,AOE and what not but never played them online during those days since i didn't have a connection so when i went to blindly do an SC2 match in ranked i was shocked to see an enemy army knocking at my door in mere minutes of starting a game or seeing someone build photon cannons in a hidden corner of my base. After some time i did the same thing a few times, got me some cheap wins and was funny for a while but it quickly became dull and wasn't really a fun way overrall to play the game. From what i noticed during those two months and watchings pros play, the vast majority of competitive RTS players will try to cheese like hell with early rush tactics so they can get as many wins as possible so they can rank up in the league play. Before that and now after that, i play RTS games rather casually really, pretty much never using hotkeys, or doing any special early game harassments or rushes, heck everyone i hanged with during my youth when we played RTS games such as red alert and the original starcraft, we all had similar play styles of taking things rather easy and usually just focusing on building big defenses for our main bases and then getting huge armies to clash against each other and watch the battle unfold.

My story is similar, but with populous, using ballons + shamans to spray mayhem over the lands. RTS in general are really exploitable, this is why i got interested in Planetary Annihilation, the game had focus on these exploits, so i'd expect that a game like that would be balanced around the RTS's general online strategy. Turned out the game sucks lmao.

Not an expert, but I believe the firelord is used as an force that you can produce outside of your base since your base is under siege, it'd be hard to make barracks.

U actually dont defend, you invade him with summons and few grunts and expand there, you can survive till then because those turrets deal piercing damage wich is very weak against structures, you can easily survive that first rotation to buy firelord and summon 1-2 grunts

A victory is a victory even if it only takes 1 second to achieve it. It's possible to counter this strategy, but the victim wasn't good enough to do it, so his team lost. It may seem unfair, but it's just part of the game.

David Hytha they quit cause they couldn't do anything else, unable to defend their base and unable to build effectively because of the Rush Tower. Pretty much a lost battle,, just pointing that out.

The game said "Victory!" at the end, which is literally all that counts. This is exactly how you can level up your profile if you're playing ranked.

Seriously, the rusher was exposed and. Cutting off his resource supply would have been easy, especially considering at least some of his team wasn't on board with the strat.

It's possible that the orc already realized his building placement screwed him which effectively made the game a 2v2. Once one leaves, they all leave. It could also be that they were a premade, saw the tower rush, didn't feel like dealing with it, and left to find a better game.

Firelord :) Oh i did some games with nightelf and orc.. if you need thoughts... nightelf because summons help tank in begin and very quick creeping!!! And orc because lava gets protected well and enemies can't run (ensnare). Soulburn does good damage, and decently on say: BM because it reduces his damage a bit (not items unfortunately which is balance issue by blzzard). Passive is difficult to use for me (because i have lag), but I think with micro can be fun... if you don't need soulburn or reskill because enemy has too many dispell..

(I can't edit) so to add: I have worked out a very wierd but good strategy for nightelf with him... with tripple hero in the end, but I won't tell because it was work to create it, but just to say he can be some fun...

You only truly lose a game when you don't try to beat it and quit as soon as you see something that you don't know how to deal with.

When I enter a casual 3v3 match that has the potential to go on for a long time with epic large-scale battles, how anticlimactic is it for the game to be over in a couple of minutes because of one cheeser? If someone's going to just tower rush from the word "go" instead of doing anything fun, then it's better to just move on to the next game.

Even once you get to the late game grand armies with max upgrades, there will always be those rage quitters once their armies get wrecked and their bases get attacked. It's fun when everyone tries their best, not be toxic and a quitter, and just play the game as best as you can. A tower rush is not unstoppable, although it does ruin the early game building, it doesn't really end the game there for the defender. There are lots of strats and gameplay styles you can use to counter and spice up the whole pace of the game for you, rather than just having the same old: >build up army >creep >small skirmishes >grand assault >game end that stuff, you can always do with an AI, but when in online matchmaking, expect a strat you have never thought of before that works. The thrill of an unseen tactic, application of psychological warfare, and maybe just some funny strats. You can also have fun by doing all sorts of stuff rather than going for the same old basic strat.

All you have to do is simple stop building burrow, wait for the militia to be peasents and then build burrow next to where he is building towers. Burrow will finish before the scout tower is a gaurd tower and now that little noob rush gave you the win

Just curious, I've never played WC3 competitively, and I think it's safe to say that human players could just wait for the militia buff to run out on their enemies, then turn their own workers into militia.

Antifrost its impossible to rush an undead. their ghouls are way too versatile early game. For night elves just uproot the buildings and kill the towers.

Games become long when the skill level is even. Even if I rush someone we usually end up with relatively even losses and a small advantage or disadvantage to one side. Almost only when the skill level is highly tilted to one of the players does the rush end the game. In which case why play a long game against someone you can run circles around. If you play a ranked game that doesn't have rush then you'd need to invent an RTS game that has a really strong defenders advantage.

It's not hard to counter. If there's a cheese strategy, it's usually really easy to play around. The problem is the escalation. You are not given much time to react to the strategy, but if you know what you're doing, you should be able to return to the game.

sanesanchezs Yeah, what makes it hard is not the "theory" behind the counters, but the "execution" that matters. Pulling it out though, can make a potential ez 2v3 in favor of your enemies, into a 3v2 in favor of your team. Then you get to witness the best part: the rage.
