ジャッキーマクリーン＋フレディハバード。フレディハバードは珍しくフリューゲルホルンを吹いている。この頃唇に腫瘍ができ、演奏活動をしばらく休んでいたという。確かに演奏は絶不調。貴重な記録ではある。

As a man who is not gay I can say that Jackie looks gorgeous and is playing so beautifully. And I love how the bell of his horn is cocked a little to his left. His tone is so special. A tiny bit flat. He one of jazz’s treasures.

The feeling is mutual haha. Better flat than sharp! Even Dexter Gordon tended to play flat and sounded incredible regardless. I dont think anyone can beat his timbre on the alto, the closest I have heard so far are Frank Strozier (incredibly similar) Charlie Parker + Lou Donaldson (obvious inspirations) and Charles McPhearson. Greatest alto imo nothing beats his feel.
