I wouldn't say this was Schubert's finest chamber composition, but the performance is sublime.

Yes, but Schubert's worst is better than 99% of composers' best.

What is "finest" and what one "likes the best" may of course be different. The String Quintet is often touted as his supreme chamber work, and I repect and like it as arguably so, and the Eflat trio no. 2 may be "finer", more heavyweight, but I actually "like" more this buoyant and crystal clear trio, along with the Quartetsatz in C minor, and the final G Major Quartet (my favorite Schubert chamber work).

The first 3 movements are great and then comes the repetitious finale.

The Rondo? That’s what a rondo is supposed to be: a repetitious musical form.

@@MARTIN201199 You are absolutely correct Martin. A Rondo has a principle theme and then episodes based around that. Simplistically ABA or ABACA. Mr Nortman needs to learn.

David A yep. That’s musical form.
