@@WillieManga I agree. I love Power Rangers, and have been watching it since I was a little boy in the 90's, and even though they almost always had corny dialogue, i loved it. As I got older, I remember taking Power Rangers just a bit more seriously, despite them being corny and as you put it, campy. Still love the series. Even if I may not watch it now, I still respect how great the series is. Hell, my favorite english anime voice actor started out AS a Power Ranger! I even loved the Power Rangers Turbo movie. And 2 of my favorite Power Rangers are also played 2 different versions of the same character, which I didn't know until later. But there's no saving the dialogue in this movie. Way too cringey for ANYONE to believe. Like it's from another dimension or something...

I hate how all the “losers” in these bad movies are always super attractive people who clearly know they’re super attractive. “Oh no, you’re smart, pretty, funny, athletic, and talented? I can see why everyone hates you.” Movies like Superbad actually got kids who weren’t conventionally attractive. They understood why a kid might be unpopular. Movies like this try to make us believe the kids who would obviously be popular are somehow hated.

It's a weird self-fulfilling prophecy. Writers can't be bothered to do research, so they just copy what they've seen before. So you get the same tropes about high school recycled over and over again. It's like how every old person on TV is recycling old person tropes from, like, the 1950s, even though for that to make sense they'd have to be about 150 years old.

Why you should use memes and references in your movie: Pro: - Someone from the audience *might* get a laugh of it *if* they watch it while the meme/reference is still a thing *and* if they think the meme/ref is funny - ? Contra: - Anyone who doesn't know the meme/ref won't find any humour in it and will have no idea what it's supposed to convey - Anyone who watches the film after the meme/ref is "dead" will think it's not funny, just cringy and outdated - It usually doesn't progress the plot or improve the dialog at all - If used incorrectly you will undeniably prove how out of touch you are with actual pop culture - If used by "smart" characters you'll make them look hella dumb Clearly, the pros outweigh the cons.

I think the problem with F the Prom is that it's based off a high school culture that doesn't exist anymore. It's like they tried to make a relatable high school movie by basing it on old high school movies instead of high school. Most of the popular kids at my school are top of their class, community volunteers, etc. The kind of "popular bully" archetype the movie relies on just doesn't exist anymore, high school culture is a lot more complicated. In a post-Columbine climate, the angry, self victimizing outcast just isn't the kind of person we root for anymore. If anything, F the Prom would've been really interesting if it'd been told through the lens of characters like Warren from Buffy the Vampire Slayer or Matt from The Dirties.

Right? I graduated high school in 2012 and the best football players also were in AP classes, played video games, and cared more about there GPA than anyone in band or whatever people would consider the nerd group. We never had any problems either, we were friends with people in band and they were friends with us. We never called them losers for not playing football or gave a shit what there interests were. It's just a strange idea that high schoolers care so much about people they supposedly have nothing in common with.

I know a few years ago I, the classic literary nerd, ran a school D&D club that included the football quarterback and his MVP girlfriend, a wrestling champ, and some other Cool Kids on top of the usual dorky suspects. There was a lot of bleed, and I always figured it was kind of a small school thing, but I guess it isn't. In a more incredible expectation defying example, my little sister's about to graduate in a high school class where the most intense hard-drinking party kids are the val and sal.

dear god i hate "teen movies" like this which are very obviously made by 35/40 year old men. i am currently in high school, and no one in my entire school acts like they do in these movies. i'm not "popular", and i don't fit the stereotype of a cookie cutter kid at school, but still nobody really bullies me. people dont care that much honestly. nobody says "lol" out loud or would care if someone stuffed their bra or was gay. i swear these movies seem like they were made by someone who's never actually stepped foot in a high school. there aren't "cliques" of evil popular girls, cheerleaders dont wear their outfits every day. the school is too big, and the day goes by far too fast for bullying to happen tbh.

warren harper 666 I whole heartedly agree with this. To add to your comment, people aren't so overly obsessed with being "cool". In these types if movies, being cool seems to be slacking off and dating girls or boys and other ridiculous like that. However, when you look at the concerns of actual Hugh school students, there seems to be quite a difference. In real life, no cares about being cool. Being cool in school will only help in the short term cause once you get out of high school you won't know what to do or where to go, because you were to focused on being "cool".
