Outrageous!

You know, now that I think back on it after looking back at the screenshot I took of my ranking in this GP (because I ranked 6th overall, which is the highest I've ever ranked in a GP to this date); I remember thinking how weird it was that you were consistently first place/top three on every other track except for Fire Field. So when I finished this race, I remember noting that you 'weren't' even in the top ten and thinking you maybe crashed out during the race, but I recall scrolling down (before the timer ran out and it displayed my total points), it showed you as Ranked Out instead of Crashed Out; to which I thought "huh. weird. Maybe they got unlucky in RC2 near the end" but at the time, I didn't even notice that you'd ranked out at 20th place instead of 21st (because if you get to the last track, you can only crash out, not rank out. Normally). But then I see this and I understand now... Man, that sucks... Definitely a "swearing loudly and maybe flinging your controller at the wall" moment for sure. ☹

Yeah, the connection was pretty dead throughout the whole Grand Prix. I can understand if I got a plain old communication error, but the fact the game thought I was driving backward instead of just disconnecting me was bizarre.

The game may be got confused by the tracks route.

I intentionally drove backwards in a race once and got black flagged/DSQed after a few seconds with this same message showing up; this doesn't happen in the tutorial or practice mode, however

I guess they didn’t like that people were going backwards on the last lap to grief the leaders. Yes, that is a real thing I have seen happen at the end of a Prix multiple times. That or they caught on to the fact that it can technically be faster to go in reverse and hit the boost panel at the very start of Fire Field. In either case I don’t think Nintendo should have intervened

@@heckYEAHman. Just ghost people for those who lapped them, and perhaps disable all track objects to people on lap 0 (when you go over the finish line backwards, you lose a lap).

@@MernomI like the second idea better than what Nintendo did (though I still think the game would be better off without “patching” that “issue” on Fire Field - it’s not a huge timesave at all and more of a cool swag strat than anything). The problem with the first idea is that the slowest players can and often do get lapped by the leaders at the end of a perfectly normal race, and IDK… having them just be ghosts you can pass through wouldn’t sit right with me, even if they’re usually just CPU

@@heckYEAHman.The perhaps only ghost them if they don't move above a certain speed? That would mostly prevent griefing. If you also ghost on collisions, it might as well be a full ghost.
