That's why this game had such high performance and ran at 60fps, because there weren't really any textures to take up memory.

that and the low polygon count of the game, the only detailed model on screen is you machine, and the ones that are next to you as soon as they get a little bit ahead or behind you their model changes to another with reduced polygons

Shame that out of all the games that have had an official graphical fresh coat of paint this one has not had a chance to shine. Would be perfect for play in handheld mode.

I disagree. Falcon’s portrait looks fucking dopey compared to the original, and idk why they went with the GX designs for some characters, rather than just staying faithful to their X designs

I found that you need to use an old version of project 64 to play, I used the 2.4.0.902-geb2b1f0, also I follow the guide on the links of this video and patch the rom

why do i need to patch the rom to enable texture replacements the are n64 emulators where you can place the new textures in a folder & it replaces them

Because this rom has a weird header, so no textures are loaded from a folder. (it took me a while to figure it out why it wasn't working) The only change that the patch does is put a name in the header of the rom.

Follow the guide on the links of the descripton of this video, you need the NUD-EFZE-JPN.n64 and then patch it

Trying to patch NUD-EFZE-JPN.n64 with flips says "this patch is not intended for this rom". Beat fails to patch it too. I made sure to get the correct one it from the recommended source. Can anyone help?

Id prefer less textures and take the 60fps anyday. However I could still drive the blue falcon better than that either way lol

@@Gigantemanatee yes totally! I just meant that back on the 90's when it came out and tech was limited. I'm glad the chose fps over textures. That 60fps is what makes that game on n64 playable. And my n64 still runs like a dream lol

This pack doesn't work properly, it only loads some textures in most emulators.

I used the rom you posted (with the beta64 link). Tried a few different emulators and versions of GlideN64 with different settings. And the textures work partially in all cases. Spent a lot of time and all i can say is that if the pack works, it must be working with an extremely specific emulator/glideN64 version.

@@claudesing I think RetroArch + Mupen64plus-Next is the most popular and multiplatform. Also, check out this awesome no LOD mod /watch?v=bFKIP4QCAUk Would it be possible to be compatible with that?

This is beautiful, especially considering that the video quality of a real N64 cart running on actual hardware connected up to an otherwise decent, Christian HDTV is nearly indistinguishable from a pair of sweaty, hairy balls. I grew up on Nintendo and I love all the earlier consoles, but the fact that they have not released an updated HDMI-capable, 720p (at least) outputting replacement for the N64 is borderline criminal and until they do, I will not give then another dime of my money.

I absolutely adored GX for the longest time, especially for what they pulled of graphically with the GC tech. and it still looks stellar to this day, but some of the track design layout choices just make me go 🥴 thankfully the good outweighs the bad. When it comes to X, if it could have looked like this back then on the N64 I would definitely have it pipped over GX for its overall awesomeness as a racer.

Too many game breaking exploits in GX. Sega had a decent crack at it but X is the better, more refined game. Truly a masterpiece.
