Funny back then how the race didn't get a yellow flag cause of Senna's car was on the kerb and the race continued on.. If that happened today the yellow flag would of been showed, saftey car brought out and have to reunite the pack from Pole position until the car was safely removed by the marshalls, and that would have taken a few laps.

The MP4/4 is simply the most beautiful Grand Prix car ever designed. The old adage 'if it looks right, it IS right' proved itself here. It was a magnificent design - I remember reading about the winter testing in Autosport,1987-88, and the car was immediately blindingly quick. 16 starts, 15 wins, 10 1-2 finishes: a magnificent season for McLaren.

Gerhard Berger's Ferrari and Eddie Cheever's Arrows were illegal. During post-race-scrutineering, the fuel tank of the Ferrari no. 28 was found to be 151,5 liters big, the fuel tank of the Arrows no. 14 was found to be 151 liters big. The stewards let the cars cool down, and after several failed attempts, the result was below 150 liters each. I assume the stewards wanted to get home alive, disqualifying a winning Ferrari in Monza would have ended in a civil war...

I wouldn't call Schlesser 'inexperienced'. Although this was his only F1 start, he won Le Mans in 1981, and was World Sportscar Champion (Group 'C') in 1989 and 1990. He was versatile too, winning the Paris Dakar 'raid' in 1999 and 2000. The F1 'fans' just see Schlesser as a 'one-off-duffer', when he was anything but...

No way, McLaren applied that hegemony because they had Alain Prost and Ayrton Senna driving those dream cars. In 92, there was NO CONTENDERS at all to even come close to the FW14B’s. But Mansell had a #1 driver contract, and despite of Patrese was not in the same league as a driver as Prost, Senna, Mansell, Schumacher - even in the rare times when Patrese’s car was performing better than Mansell’s car, the team used to control the performance of his FW14B from the boxes, in order to not threatening Mansell’s position.

@@filipborin555 It was the MP4/4's aerodynamics that stole the show. Literally one extra cog in the transmission enabled the whole engine/gearbox assembly to sit lower than in any other car, allowing much, much more air over the rear wing - and hence, extra downforce. Another example of Gordon Murray's genius.

And the 2002 Ferrari wasn't?? Seriously, in a scenario where Schumacher had crashed and was injured for the rest of the 2002 season, Barrichello would have dominated that season. The same thing would have happened in 1992 with Riccardo Patrese, had Mansell been out for most of the season. Ferrari could afford to have Barrichello race fairly. Instead things like Austria 2002 happened. After his loyaly and bad luck he deserved it too. Prost thought McLaren favoured Senna btw...
