What shocked me the most is that Gasly was blamed for the situation at all. I heard even skysport commentators where criticizing Gasly for driving so fast. While in fact he was doing what was needed to catch up. There is no other way to say it, the crane and the Marshall should not have been on track.

As glad as I am that nothing happened, I fear that exactly that would cause F1 to be less critical of this incident. The fact they immediately started shooting the messenger (Gasly), proves they're not ready to accept responsibility at all. Any admision of guilt may very well be only driven by some form of self preservation in the form of PR downplay and/or trying to weather out the storm. Let's wait and see what they'll do and hopefully I'm wrong.

That view from the grandstand seeing how fast they actually drive behind the safety car and how much room there is to lodge an F1-car underneath that recovery vehicle... It makes my stomach churn. If any one of the drivers had lost control while passing the scene, they absolutely could have been killed.

JB17 died due to a double yellow at Suzuka2014 because a tractor was OFF THE TRACK removing Sutils car at the Dunlop curve next to the armco/tire barrier. JB's impact force into the tractor was 254g's.......JB didn't adhere to the double yellows track conditions and unfortunately he was speeding and died. Gasly at Suzuka2022 was handed a penalty for driving 250kph at T14 and T15 under red flag conditions and it was inclement weather. Both JB and Gasly were speeding in wet conditions.

Thank you Aldas, seeing that 2 of my favourite drivers could have been killed at the exact track in the same circumstances really hit home, I remember when I was a kid, turning over the channel to the interviewers saying that they could not show the highlight footage due to Bianchi's injuries really hurt and to this day still kills me that I couldn't see him race again, especially considering he was my favourite driver. The FIA really need to revaluate the rules that they have implimented.

I feel like what's worse about this whole thing is that the FIA and some commentators tried pinning 100% blame on Gasly when the issue got brought up as if not realizing what the real issue here is. Speeding should be penalized, but at the very least the FIA should still ensure that people are kept out of death as much as possible especially if drivers have close to 0 visibility and cars can aquaplane pretty quickly.

My idea for safety car procedure: As soon as it's called, all cars are reduced to VSC speeds - - This helps to avoid cars going too quickly to catch up to the pack All drivers must pass into the pits at the first opportunity (actually pitting is optional) - - I've heard calls about closing the pit lane during SC to stop people getting an unfair advantage (somehow?) but it's essential that all cars be allowed to pit for safety purposes - - Also, this means that there are no cars on track whilst the incident is being cleared Safety Car sits at the end of the pit lane until ALL cars line up behind it - - This allows any trailing cars to latch onto the pack as that would be quite difficult under VSC speeds When, and ONLY when, the incident is cleared, the Safety Car leaves the pits with all cars in tow - - No cars running laps whilst the danger is on track means NO opportunity for crashes and the marshalls can do their job without risk of being run over by a stray F1 car Once on the circuit, all cars unlap themselves - - ALL cars... not some... and because the incident is cleared, the lapped cars can quickly shoot off at race pace Once the final unlapping car has passed the SC, one additional lap is ran by the SC before it comes in - - This allows the back of the pack cars to get some kind of distance from the leaders before the SC comes in Don't get me wrong, that procedure is borderline red-flag territory, but the benefit of this system would include not having to wait 15 minutes to an hour to get the cars back out on track.

I have some ideas for safety equipment that can be useful in heavy rain conditions like Suzuka last Sunday: 1. I would suggest some type of flashing yellow lights on the T-shape camera dock above the car that has gyroscope and g-force sensors and independent batteries so it would automatically turn on upon impact and can be independently operated outside the electricity of the car (because of the battery). The T-shape lights should at least can survive the type of crash that Mick Schumacher had in Jeddah this year where the T-shape is also broken from the mounting (but still intact). This is optional but, I think a loud and buzzing high-pitch noise can also be added to warn nearby drivers and marshall, at least until the marshall turns that off. 2. A flashing HALO lights that are also connected to the gyroscope and g-force sensors would flash a yellow light. An example of this would be similar to Formula E Fan Boost lights around the HALO

Having an isolated incident with a crane is less harmful than risking the spine and therefore the nervous systems of drivers knowingly. Especially if it happens and the people taking the risks are not showing any kind of remorse. If safety is the issue we should focus on regular ways of working first, eliminating mistakes second. That's how things should work, and do when the topic (health and safety) is actually what people care about. But Mercedes puts their drivers in cars stating it's harmful on the long term and could inflict permanent damage because they choose to do so. If health and safety is truly the issue here that's where we should start, Mercedes knowingly and openly putting the lives of their drivers at stake. Only when nobody is consciously risking lives it makes sense to focus on eliminating mistakes. What we see now is random events that people simply dive on without even considering the bigger picture here. There's something to be said for marshals arguing: "Yeah, we took a risk. But so did Wolff, we figured it was all part of the game! Are you trying to tell me safety is so important? How do you line that up with the decisions Mercedes made with their porpoising car?"

Horrible situation that should that have happened. I believe the FIA will not let this happen again but I believe the bigger issue going forward is racing when wet with no visability. Many F1 fans like these conditions because it can "Spice" up the race but Sainz could have also been seriously injured by another car had he been a little more on track after his spin. Racing when you cannot see is going to cause another horrific accident.

F1 had become an tedium or ennui again despite 2022 regulation revamp. Gone are the monsoon tyre variant from the past, now every wet race is too pampered and delayed by hours, later such races had been curtailed to 2 hours time limit Drivel. Wet races should be started with standing start and not by following SC. Such wet conditions will bring the best out of top draw racing drivers, such races will also separate great racing drivers from also ran or bang average racing drivers

The solution to this problem isn't even difficult as it already exists. Send an all coms message to all drivers that there is a vehicle and/or marshals on track, in sector X, but beyond that, when drivers can't even see, the race needs to be red flagged and drivers sent back to the pits before any vehicles or human can enter the track. It's literally not hard. Other categories already do this. In other news, we as fans have been crying all season long to just let the drivers race, and why do we even have wet tyres if they'll never be used....and shock of shock, we got started right on time! Well, I guess we all found out why this was a bad idea together. Those Pirelli extreme wets suck so much that no team even wanted to touch them for fear of losing pace...can you blame them....they're there to race!

Even though I put slightly more of the blame of Gasly for not slowing under safety car conditions and yellow flags, I fully understand the criticism being circulated. However, having it happen at Suzuka though, i think aggravated opinions to too much of an extreme. I mean, hardly anyone made note of cars driving past the recovery vehicle picking up Ricciardo’s McLaren at Monza. For me, there should not be recovery vehicles on the track at the same time as Grand Prix cars, full stop. I’m personally sick of having FIA-related negative chatter, being the talking points of every third or even second race. I’m new to F1 and I want to relish with others in their love for this sport, not being angry and throwing hatred regularly. I’m curious, do some of you think we as fans can do a better job than the race officials at their job?
