@@granofuru As Mikko explains, if Hamilton had another 6 or 7 seconds on Verstappen, he would've been able to pit during the safety car for free. You need 14 seconds to pit during the safety car, when it was called Max was 11 behind hamilton. an extra 6 seconds means hamilton WOULD'VE pit and still emerged P1, and probably kept his lead. Though it would've been a great last lap fight between Max and Lewis on fresh softs.

I feel for Masi. He was obviously doing his best to give Lewis the title, first with the no penalty after cutting the chicane, then with the "lapped cars will not be allowed to overtake", until someone higher (probably Todt?) told him that was impossible to justify and had to fix it in a hurry.

but its actually debatable, you see because max was very aggresive with hamilton in that corner, hamilton was pushed off the track so the only way to get back was take that huge corner cut. although he did get a huge advantage, by the time he rejoined the track, he had given back enough of the advantage
