Thank you for this video. Expecting delivery in a few weeks on a F-450. Good to know to throw some dielectric grease in the connection immediately as a preventative.

Good call man. That is really suprising how many codes that one connector will throw. Could you list the Ford part numbers for that Electricial grease, that tough grey silicone gasket maker, and any other of the Ford shop supplies that work great? Love these how to videos man, keep ‘em coming! Thanks Rich!

Great job as always sir..you would think that the manufacturers would have this problem solved with these POS quick connectors by now..but that's not the case.
@JimmyMakingitwork2 жыл бұрын
A little dielectric can reduce contamination intrusion and even more importantly fretting inside the connectors. Just don’t over do it guys. Just a tiny bit on each pin and on the connector seals.

Your "temporary" repair will probably out last the factory connector! I used to make connections encased in silicone for my off road bug and drove that thing through pouring rain storms while others were stalled on the side of the roads.

Seems to be that when cars had solid wires front to back there were no problems , as soon as they started splitting the wires and adding quick connections then they have all these bad connections an shorts. Some times it’s not better 😐

Interfaces, in general, are a major source of failure in any complex system. Even in purely mechanical systems, you will find that the failures tend to cluster around where the components in the system join together, such as gaskets, bearings, seals, etc. As the number of interfaces in a system increases, the larger the corresponding fault tree grows, giving a less reliable system, every thing else being equal.

Firm believer in using Dielectric grease. So much for "weather pac connectors"

Never ends Ford WAS my go to now steering wracks locking up axles leaking oil thin axle tubes cheap now and drive shafts falling out. And now my go to a V8 has a belt driven oil pump not likely. Done with this brand 15 years pulling wrenches with Ford own a 2007 with the crappy 5.4 never been crappy to me over serviced 13 years later no rattles or ticks 175,000k 5k oil changes 20k plug changes still runs like new. And I thrash it I am 55 drive it like I am 18 years old. Clean oil and carbon cleaning aka thrashing WILL keep a 5.4 alive. Not a replacement in the Ford line I am getting a Hemi.

@@IllusiveChristie no its water and moisture getting trapped up inside the connector even with the weather pack seal it's not sealing it that's why if you look at the tailgate unintended opening technical service bulletins they have you cut the wires for the tailgate completely out of there and wire into new connectors because it's just not sufficient If it was me I would grab some rubberized undercoating and coat the connectors completely on the outside of the shell and then if I ever had to get back in there it would be a little bit of a pain but I could easily cut through the coating to separate the shells

Follow the one going out of the tailgate where the pivot point is underneath the back of the truck wiggle it and you'll see it move it's passing through the bottom of the tailgate into the bottom of the truck and then you could follow it around

Let me start by saying I’m biased against all the toys and gadgets OEMs are putting on vehicles these days. KISS is where it’s at for me. That being said, how long will this crap last in states that use some form of ice melt during the winter months? It’s great while all these ‘toys’ are under warranty or if you can trade your problems away every 3 years. Consumers keep buying this crap not knowing what’s in store for them 3 or more years down the road. And our government is pushing to go all electric! People, wake up! Snowmobile trailer manufacturers can’t even make a trailer where the operating lights work for more than a year or 2. Low voltage connections don’t stand a chance against a salt brine or other corrosive environment unless very good, water proof connections are used and connections are treated at the factory with conductive/waterproof grease. Taken from a 1980s movie and twisted to suit my purpose, “Build it and it will fail”. i’m We’re all being used as Guinea Pigs while the manufacturers attempt to get it right. Sorry for the rant! This stuff is preventable!
