I think Merc was doing one or two parts per GP to enable them to ensure that the car still correlates and moves in the right direction. Rather than chucking a ridiculous number of parts and something unknown not working, this probably allowed them to focus on and iterate on small things while also enabling them to throw more parts at it in subsequent races.

I think he changed A LOT since he came from Ferrari. He found environment that works for him and he said it 100x. Just like Newey liked RB, Alison thrives in Mercedes. To be honest I find him even better, and would chose him over Newey.

I personally cant agree purely because of what Newey has done over the years and the challenges he's had with his cars. For example Redbull long struggled with a very poor PU, Mercedes have never really had that struggle. I do think Alison is incredible, Newey aswell. But i cannot stress enough how these 2 people work with a whole fleet of talented people who also help massively in the development of the car who maybe brings ideas that neither Alison or Newey thought about

It's amazing and exciting time. I watched an interview with James Allison on F1 channel not too long ago, where he talked about the car development. I always felt that Lewis did mistake by choosing Ferrari, when Allison got back.

Genuine question regarding the “cooling” system Mercedes are using. How does it work effectively if there are no openings for air to go through? How can it effectively cool the car and driver down if there are a bunch of mechanical parts in the way? I can see one of the big teams challenge this upgrade to the FIA.

Taking what we've seen from Mercedes together with what we've heard from Redbull... I think it's pretty clear that one very important part of this regulation set is using suspension tricks to manipulate the ride height to get the most out of the floor.

I don’t think anyone in the F1 world except for me maybe, can sense that Mercedes is about to dominate the 2nd half the season or end of the season. Honesty since this new ground effect area everybody knows the Redbull secret is in the suspension. They do it legally or not we don't know,but what we know they are able to keep the floor always at ideal ride height from the track. They have something in the suspension which always adjust self to the optimum ride height ,so doesn't matter if the car is empty or super heavy. Teams knows that a very long time, but obviously they didn't know how the Redbull do it since it would be illegal any electronic, hydraulic solution, but they do it legally (FIA allowed). The McLaren figured out first and now the Mercedes also playing with suspension. Lets see if Aston also got something similar in Hungary...

Mercedes thinks outside the box when it's comes to ideas on upgrades. Also, I think their development plan is only just beginning. Red bull and Mclaren seam to hitting a peak in concept but mercedes are just at the start, it should be worry for others how quickly they have caught up given how little the developed in the first 6 gps. Hungary will be very warm gp, so we will see if they have improved in hotter conditions, currently projected as being 31c for the weekend.

The key for Mercedes is adding new parts in small steps, limiting the changing variables on the car. This way they managed to fix the correlation between the simulations and the real life performance. That was the main problem Mercedes struggled with and the main reason why it took so long for them to not being able to improve or reinvent the car.

Great video mate. MB have been constantly chipping away at the block to the derision of content creators. But I think their efforts are starting to deliver fruit. The thing with this approach, is that we are likely to see a steady progression that will see this car competing closer and closer to the front. It isalso development that has largely gone "undetected" by the opposition and now that the results are now starting to be felt on the track, confidence in the team will grow. Promises some interesting outcomes going forward. Other teams went on the copy/paste method, MB seem to have data searched the remedy. Both are valid though as we have seen with Mclaren. My only concern with Mclaren is whether they now have data enough to keep pace.

I think it’s a monster sized heave damper running in parallel with the normal heave damper. The normal damper is just normal 🤔 The monster damper is set to be activated a millimeter or less before the car reaches the ride height where it starts porpoising. Obviously it is set to have its damping at its maximum at the frequency of porpoising. If it’s as humongously powerful and big as I believe it to be, then it will obviously need to be cooled a lot which will make the statement about cooling right. Next updated could then be a less severe and more compact solution for the rear axle. I know I am probably rambling, but hey it’s great to let one’s phantasy run wild 😃 Greetings from Denmark

Mercedes' winning conditions are actually the same as those of McLaren and Ferrari. Solving the problem of car development is the first and foremost fundamental. The first and most important thing is to develop the platform, that is, the chassis itself. The second step is the rear suspension problem, and there are not many solutions here. Some compensation plans need to be made. The third step is to increase the downforce of the car so that the car has enough cornering grip. As long as the problem is solved, it is not a problem to beat Red Bull. The current development progress is actually not extreme enough. There is a cost ceiling limit. Otherwise, everything will be much faster. It should have happened in the 2023 season. Red Bull's ability to solve problems is actually declining, and they have ignored the most important engineer, and Nuremberg is very important for car development. He is an important engineer. Red Bull cannot win by Verstappen alone.

We believe that the Mercedes teams biggest gain has come from their 'Wind Tunnel' analysis program being upgraded to improve design results & refinement. Ever since the Mercedes team dropped the ball, in 2022, by making the wrong driver combination choice, all F1 fans were shocked & disappointed to see the teams very slow recovery caused by team arrogance refusing to accept that their data analysis systems was not giving them accurate feedback.

something i only noticed recently that the W15 floor, especially the upper surface of it shaping in a low profile mountain shape. with its apex right at the middle of the sidepod. but my eyes could be deceiving me. usually/normally it would look like a "valley". that have the middle part sits the lowest. this time the middle part bulging up. which i believe has nothing to do with the contour of the lower surface of the floor. which led me to think it must be to SLOW down the flow going to that channel under the sidepod bulge. creating a "chokepoint" . which is coherent to how ground effect floor panel should be treated. contrary to the initial concept of the mercedes W 13. that "chokepoint" would hold up the flow and let the flow under the floor flows faster in deficit to the flow over the floor panel. this is the same treatment that the redbull have been using since the beginning of the ground effect seasons. not sure what inside that bulge on the nosecone. most likely about something, a pivot point of a "rocker" that must sits higher, or something like that, to produce certain behaviour or certain movement range of the wishbones. while lowering the anchor point of the front's second wishbone, the bone that sits closer to the sidepod intake, is to shift the wishbone moving angle slightly rearwards. the effect : that car will transfer its velocity into front load to the suspension BETTER when the car is decelerating/braking. providing better front bite when using a chassis with a MUCH rearwards of standing weight distribution.

No the Mercedes has the much better platform due to the seating and suspension geometry. The usage of no Pullrod allows the Mercedes have more consistent downforce no matter the corners and could have the suspension to be set much softer vs the other teams. RB, Ferrari and McLaren have to make their Pull-Rod stiff to make in it dive and lift. And it’s possible it causes issues. For RB and McLaren it’s slow speed Pullrod front, for Ferrari it’s High Speed, Pull-Rod rear.
@JDT2309

@@Shea-austin Interesting insight. I guess it makes sense though as Mercedes is already able to run their car super low so now they have the added benefit of stability through corners and over bumps, which is of course what some teams like Red Bull have suffered with. I believe some teams also run hybrids though, no? Ferrari is said to have pull-rod at the read and push-rod at the front, and Red Bull are the opposite. And Haas uses Ferrari suspension and has been performing quite well. At this point in the development cycle of these ground effect cars I feel it’s honestly whatever you can make work best. McLaren has a super super good all round stable car and they’re on pull-rod, but Red Bull has a hybrid and still struggles over intense bumps. I doubt that we’ll see a change in suspension concept from other teams this close to new regs but maybe some will follow the full push rod approach
@Shea-austin

I agree, in 2026 it’s moving towards and in-wash rather than the outwash design that was intended in these current regulations. The Mercedes was already very good with in wash designs of the W10, W11, W12. The W13 concept could very well make a return, but a more refined philosophy. Note that the W13 had a lot of downforce, but I don’t think that was due to the floor, but rather its aero concept. I think Mercedes could very well be dominant very soon this season, and proved it wasn’t just the engine that made them great.
