Beautiful model and you have clearly done an excellent job! I used to model many years ago and kept my model stash knowing one day I’ll get back into it! I can’t believe how hard to come by and expensive the 1/72 Hasegawa Phantoms have become! I have a F-4E and a F-4D in the stash and want to do Iranian versions. Last model I’d done was the 1/72 Hasegawa FB-111A converted into a F-111G with Aussie Decals. Recently have made the decision to get back into it, compressor and airbrush still work after 10 (maybe more) years in storage. Most of the paints are still ok! But have recently learned you can’t get Gunze Sango in US and Model Master paints are gone.

Nice F-4, but where's the VF-84 one?

I bought the F-4EJ Kair Phantom II version of this model and was thrilled to see someone had a video on building it :) Anyway, it's been awhile since I've tried to build a model to the detail you do. I think your videos would be more useful if you would either list all of the tools and materials you use (paints, air brush, compressor, glue, etc). For instance I would really like to know about your masking tape. I noticed the edges were cut like it came off a tape dispenser - would love to know more.

Really nice build. I have built this kit a few months ago. So fun to do so. Question..., It looked like you were glue parts in place that had paint on the mating pieces. I had always thought thought that the glued up parts had to be paint free, or the paint scraped off, otherwise the glue would not stick. Reference to spot 8:00. What is your method? I do not have a spray gun if that matters, I use a brush for painting. Thank you so

Hi, I use a very small amount of super glue (instant glue) when bonding painted parts.

If I apply a gloss of varnish after I putted decals on it will be a problem? What's the type of weathering solutions are used to panel lines?
@plamodelstudio2 жыл бұрын
I suggest you test your gloss vanish on a residue decal before you apply. Some decals had cracks when I applied lacquer gloss vanish. But most of enamel and acryl vanish had no problem at all. I use Tamiya panel line paint. It is enamel paint so you can use any black enamel paint with thinner.

Hi Awesome Build, question after the clear coat, what are you using to 'Pin Strip the line details' ? I have some Phantoms to do but was very inspired by your technique.
@plamodelstudio Жыл бұрын
Hi, you can use a diluted black enamel paint or TAMIYA panel liner.

may I ask what kind of paint was used at 6:59? because I did the same model kit, but got struggle for panel line. I couldn't remove it clearly just like 7:17, it seems stocked on the surface and looks so dirty and messy
@plamodelstudio4 жыл бұрын
ChungChien An Hi, mate You need to apply TOPCOAT OR SUPER CLEAR gloss (not matt) before you do panel line painting. Normally gloss clear products are lacquer or acrylic. And panel line paint is enamel. Lacquer(or Acrylic) paint are not diluted by enamel thinner.

Yes, I put clear gloss before wash then finally completed with clear matt.

Nice build! It is not your fault, but the Hasegawa ones are among the worst 72nd F-4 kits in the market. You get the same quality from Italeri (ex-Esci) F-4, but for half the price. Anyway, an aircraft kit with plain decal cockip is just embarrassing (this is the biggest issue of the Airfix kit, I really don't know how they dared to market that otherwise decent kit this way). And this kit has serious fit issues (thanks to the fact that almost not a single part that is positivly positioned). The ex-Monogram, now Revell Phantoms are much better (and again for half the price). Their only drawback is the positive panel lines, but who cares? But they have the BEST cockpit in all of the current F-4s (both side panel in the RIO station, embossed and accurate details in the side consoles and instrument panels. The ejection seats are weird in engineering, but not bad at all). Only the Fine Molds kit will probably be a really good one. The Academy is bad, not even decent (but at least it has air intakes). The Airfix is a decent kit, their panel lines are a bit too wide and deep though, and the aformentioned decalde cockpit. Currently I building this Hasegawa kit, and its a disappointment after disappointment. I must fill and sand the whole thing thanks to the moron packing (all sprues in the same bag, really Hasegawa?). The surface of the drop tanks like a plow field, and all of the bigger parts (fusulage halves, wings, nose halves) riddled with deep scratches. The detail level is mediocre, especially compared to the ex-Monogram kit. The whole thing is badly engineered. I decided not to correct any of its issues, just building as is. Only a good painting and good, but not overdone weathering could save it form being a complete trash. But I won't keep it, I will simply give it to one of my friends. It won't deserve a place in my collection.
