The drone footage just took you from Semi Pro to Pro in a heartbeat. The 3D aspect is so much better. Probably safer for your camera crew as well ! Nows the time to really up your game! You guys are awesome!

Those Firestone tires a perfect. They are round, black, and hold air. They appear to have good traction. As for overlanding, back in the day, we had a scout pickup. It was stacked with a tent, sleeping bags, ice chest, camp stove, lanters, and chow. We called it camping and exploring.

The Scout was my dream vehicle as a young man!! International Harvester didn't have a car line or light truck line to borrow parts from when developing the Scout, so they borrowed from their heavy truck/tractor line for the driveline! Everything was heavy duty! That 345 V8 in the Scout would embarrass a lot of "muscle cars" back in the day!! Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦

Ahhh, you’ve done some overlanding before. That trip you did to the Rubicon with Matt was overlanding at its finest. Challenging wheeling, coupled with a long drive IN YOUR RIG (not a tow vehicle!) just to get there!

I love watching Paul's off road trips, you have some truly remarkable countryside out there, I can't help reminiscing about the people 200 years ago crossing that land by horse and cart, and now good ol boys are passing that way in huge gas guzzlers worrying about refrigerators and LED lighting, crikey those old cowboys would have a few things to say and could teach you all a thing or two. Overlanding is more about building a rig that can handle the highway as well as some light/moderate rock crawling and trail driving. You don't trailer your rig when you are overlanding, you drive it everywhere, camp where you end up for the day and moving on the next day to a new spot, taking as many trails as you can.

Beautiful area. We're convinced Paul has a team of guardian angels that shake their heads every time he gets in a vehicle and says "It'll be fine." Paul asking Hunter why he's putting his seatbelt on while watching the drone was great.

When I was young man (a long time ago ) growing up on the farm and soda came in a glass bottle, we would go to town and buy Pepsi and Planters peanuts and pour the nuts into the bottle. It was very common and was a great combination. Brings back memories.

Overlanding, like camping, is different things to different people, . Overlanding isn't what you buy, its what you do. Therefore there are many different methods. Essentially you just want to get out into remote areas and stay a night or two in comfort. Comfort is also different things to different people, its all just for fun and adventure. Great video!

Been 'overlanding' forever. We just called it camping. Wheel to a spot, park and camp. The difference is we're in rigs that look like they belong there versus the overlanding crowd.

Stopped the video short to comment on Paul's comment, "We're Blessed to live in a place like this". Brother, I couldn't agree with you more. Born and raised in a concrete jungle, worked 43 years in concrete jungle, visited Utah with my wife 2 years ago after retirement in our 40' fifth wheel and camped at Sand Hollow, did all 5 of the NP's and absolutely fell in love with your state. Now, back to the video......

I'm 73 years old and I started putting peanuts in RC Cola when I was about 6 years old. My uncle taught me to do that. I recently taught my daughter to do the same. It is a great snack while on the road (and delicious)! Hunter needs to widen his culinary tastes. LOL I'll have to try cashews now. Moab is beautiful, did a trip through there several years ago on my motorcycle.

All you need to know about overlanding is that you have to pay 10x as much for your gear and you must drive your fully loaded rig to to Trader Joe’s every chance you get.

Several states have what are called BDRs, Backcountry discovery routes, perfect for overlanding. Up here in Washington, the map for our BDR is online, as are most. I keep watching videos of folks travelling the route, which travels from the Columbia river border with Oregon, to a point just shy of the Canadian border. Or vice versa, depending on whether you drive north or south. Generally a mix of offroad (dirt) and paved through some small communities and farmland. Always thought it looks like a fun outing.

19:55 “self-sustained” Hunter nailed it. It’s about being able to be out on the road traveling comfortably while being completely self-sustainable and self-reliant. But yes as the comments have pointed out it has become commercialized and “flashy”

Man I just did a 4 day trip with my family overlanding moab in August. More chill, but still great to get outdoors and not just on the main roads where everyone else is. Fun family hobby.

@@FoxVelox222 Not over simplified at all. I go do the same thing with my family, 4x4, hard trails, fun camping, great sights. I just don’t view a few days camping and exploring as overlanding, nor did anyone else up until 10-15 years ago, and honestly most still wouldn’t. The word has just become pervasive in the KZfaq and social media influencer space.

The reason for that is we have a huge country which is sparsely populated. Which means in some cases we may need to be self sufficient for a week or two.

In Rock Crawling the problems I have heard and seen with the Firestones here in AZ is weak sidewalls that cut easier. Interested to see how they do. We run Nittos on both our rigs and have great luck. Love the vids

Those Utah highway patrol cars are so funny looking. I saw a lot of them the other day on I-15 as I was driving from AZ to WY, I thought it was a beehive or a beanie hat on the side of their cars. I passed right by your shop on my way from Page to I-15. Happy holidays!

Overlanding is just what we used to call car camping. I guess we do overlanding in our mildly lifted, modified 4Runner, we have the dual batteries, Badlands winch, solar, awning tent, ground tent, 12 volt fridge, and gear so we aren't "roughing" it. We love getting out there where regular cars can't go, not heavy rock crawling. We don't have $200 spoons, million candle power lights, big steel bumpers, a rooftop tent or high priced stuff, but everything we need.

Hey Paul. I grew up in Michigan in the 50s and 60s. We owned and operated the small country store in our township. Our store was the gathering place for all the kids in the neighborhood. Our favorite drink was a bottle of pop with peanuts in it. Your video took me back to that time so many years ago. Great memories. Thanks. Also... Thanks for all the other great videos.

Paul, I love your channel, and never miss an episode! I know that you are an extremely experienced mechanic/technician/fabricator, You are able to diagnose, simply by listening, what is not right with a vehicle. At the same time, through many of your videos, repeatedly, I have observed an "error in execution", if you will. Not just you, but others as well. I was trained by the Navy as an aircraft structures mechanic, and crossed trained ans an aircraft hydraulics mechanic, so I too, know something of which I speak. When using an adjustable wrench (Crescent), the lower jaw should ALWAYS point in the direction of force/turning. This puts the spreading force generated by resistance at the throat of the jaws, where they are strongest, rather than at the tips which allow the most spreading/slippage. Having said that, I do understand room for tools is a factor, and that the fixed jaw of an adjustable wrench is very large, but Geez man, get a set of crows feet and throw them in the bag, and the box at the shop! They may not change your life... but then again they might, and there is no backwards or forwards with them. Merry Christmas to you and your lovely family and crew! Mark

I may not understand the usefulness of overlanding but I believe that it's a waste of money and the off road vehicle becomes useless due to all the unnecessary weight gained with all the camping equipment added to the vehicle

Overlanding can be a relaxing and awesome experience that you can share with your family while enjoying the great outdoors plus with you being a Avid Hunter you can use your rig as a base camp and get to hunt even quicker than being stuck miles away in a Camper or Hotel room.

Love the videos! Overland outfitting depends on what types of trails and how long you want to stay out. Most people view it as staying off grid ( or out of towns) for multiple days at a time. That means you need to have everything with you to accomplish that. What I have learned so far about it is start small and adapt as your style and needs change.

Paul overlanding is easy. All you need is a vehicle, food, shelter, water, and a way to prepare food. Anything more is not required. You’re a hunter and I’m sure you’ve Campton backpack probably got everything you need and a rucksack in the garage.
