Your paintings inspired me at the age of 73 to start all over again. I have tried all mediums but liked the watercolor best. Never satisfied with my work I put my brushes aside. Love those brushes, but here I was using a DaVinci Caseneo Series No. 8 Reservoir Liner - Similar brush in some ways

Generally no - I like to keep the whole painting moving all at once. Of course, you can't get a crisp edge if you go back into very wet paint, so you may have to wait a bit longer in this area or that - working elsewhere as you do. But I don't often allow it to dry completely first

Thanks for the comment. But respectfully, I disagree. In the sketch, too much light was portrayed in the foreground and on the far right especially. - pulling the focus of the work in too many directions. Also the pavilion is too awkwardly dead center. So in the final color sketch version I corrected all this. And so finally, the values are much more balanced and moreover, the intent, balance, dynamics, narrative, and drama of the work is more clearly displayed in the final version.

​@@thomaswschaller I'm glad that you believe it is more true to your vision then! I would love to hear a bit of your commentary in the future for when and why you decide to make changes that deviate from your sketch plan (I know in some other videos you do comment on this), I believe it may help me to understand some important things that I am missing in my understanding of composition. I am like 100% fan of your sketches, so I don't always get the reasoning of why you change things. In this example, the composition changed from a largely diagonal dark "line" from corner to corner, into what seems to be more of an "L" shaped composition. Whether that is more balanced is certainly debatable, in my mind it is simply different ,and communicates a different mood.

@@ryanoconnor7957 I did do a commentary for this video. But I'm not sure if I addressed those specific issues or not. But anyway, everybody is free to have their own opinions and agree or disagree with any of my choices. And I certainly don't nail it every time. This was a pretty quick demo painting. For what it is, I was pretty happy with it. But that doesn't mean it is the only way for it to be done . I liked the diagonal energy in the sketch too and. I tried to keep it in the larger version. But the light in the foreground seemed a little too strong and distracting as the painting developed.
