In this video I am going to custom fabricate some log bunks for my ‪@kaufmantrailers‬ Gooseneck equipment trailer. I will now be able to safely transport logs on this trailer to bring them back to the house for firewood!

sure will, and give me the ability to retrieve my own logs, rather than depend on others!

That's pretty awesome. The only thing that I would have done extra would be to put pins at the bottom. Only because trailers are really bouncy when empty and pins would ensure they don't bounce out of the pockets. I don't think the shims are needed. It might be noisy when it's empty but when there are logs on it they're not going to move at all.

It’s not too late to add pins, that’s a great suggestion! Thanks for watching!

Good build my only suggestion would be to install pad eyes at top outside of vertical rails to secure the logs and help with spreading of rails over bumps

Nice build. I have an equipment trailer to haul my tractor and implements. I need to find a local shop to weld on 4 more stake pockets and the runners connecting them. I need more tie down points. I need to get a welder and learn to weld. My dad is a retired welder but he lives 5 hours away. One of my regrets in life is not having him teach me to weld when I was younger.

Good build 👍 It should serve you well. Maybe make your shims removable, with elongated holes so you can get them in and out easier?
@EverythingElliott
@EverythingElliott Ай бұрын
I was actually thinking about making wood wedge style shims to pound in there and then be able to push out, would also provide some cushion and wont be metal on metal

I recommend doing a test of loader ability to lift over the tops before loading it. You will need to load longer logs first and then anything shorter on top. . For as long as your dealing with smaller logs it will probably work ok, but bigger hard wood logs will bend things in a hurry in my experience. Getting the bottom layer off is going to be difficult. Possibly have to drag off or chain and lift with the fenders. 0.01c

I know for sure the tractor will lift above the uprights. That’s why I only made them 4’ off the deck. I figured I’d stack big to small from bottom to top. Also, as far as fenders go, they are easy remove fenders so only 2 bolts to take them off and I can sneak a fork between the two tires, but I’m hoping the gussets push the log far enough away from the fender that I can sneak my forks over the fender and get under the log. Or I could just unload with my grapple and avoid the issue entirely.

Nice, the best trailers are multi function trailer.

that is the absolute truth. Being able to accomplish more than one thing with a piece of equipment is always ideal.

hi there think you did i really nice build , i make lots if things as well , in retro i think the channel is stronger in stretch not compression, on the up rights . open C in instead of out , on the bottomopen C being up will hold dirt bark and water . but in turn if you place a 4x4 in then you would be able to get forks under the logs , Just some thoughts but they look great well done m best to all john
@EverythingElliott

I actually did some research on the direction of C channel prior to making these. Turns out C channel has the same exact strength properties faced in or out. I was surprised to find that out.

Those look sweet! Will definitely help you load way more logs on. Saw you using the Hercules grinder. How do you like it? I got the battery powered one myself and really like it. A little on the loud side for grinders, but works great in my opinion.
@EverythingElliott
@EverythingElliott Ай бұрын
that grinder is the loudest one I've ever used in my life, but its been loyal for the past year or two. The HF one I had before that worked for about 8 years until a friend of mine dropped a piece of 3/4" plate steel on it.

Cool work being done! Could you weld a wing foot on the base to stop the movement? When filled how close to being over weight will you be? Or not?
@EverythingElliott
@EverythingElliott Ай бұрын
I certainly could do that...and as far as being overweight, I guess that would depend on the species of wood and how tightly I pack it, theres a chance of it, but I guess we wont know until we find out!
