Fabrice Muamba says Christian Eriksen being alive is the best thing to come out of Euro 2020 after the Denmark midfielder suffered a cardiac arrest on the field against Finland on Saturday.
Former Bolton midfielder Muamba, whose heart stopped beating for 78 minutes in an FA Cup quarter-final at Tottenham nine years ago after suffering a cardiac arrest, said watching Eriksen collapse brought back feelings he did not want to relive again.

@@lucasdunn1147 I really think there's something more to it. It has happened to too many football players now, Davide had it in his sleep and died...this young player Nouri had it, and with devastating concequences. There are loads of athletes training even harder than a fotball player and with a crazy pace and they never suffer from cardiac arrest? Same is with ALS, lots of fotball players get it (after they retired, as it takes time for it to develop) Could it be something they are exposed to? It has been speculations regarding ALS, that there is something they spray the pitch with, to get it in the best condition.

One reason could be elite athletes heart rate is less than 40 BPM so they basically can survive low heart rate or zero heart rate body adapted whole someone like us with 70 heart rate will be dead
@mikeletterst9882
@mikeletterst9882 2 жыл бұрын
@@zubin081 Interesting comments. I know exercise causes cardiac muscle hypertrophy which results in increased stroke volume (SV) and ejection fraction. This of course leads to reduction in heart rate due to adequate peripheral tissue oxygenation from the increased SV. However, in patients with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy the hypertrophy effect from exercise will further exacerbate and accelerate the disease process. Of course many factors will dictate the outcome of the patient. Including the patient's baseline condition, the reversibility of the cause of the arrest, the latency to starting CPR, the quality of CPR, and the availability and expertise in ECMO..
@dalfifran7572
@dalfifran7572 2 жыл бұрын
@@zubin081 IDK. There must be another reason. The heart not beating on itself may not a big problem for most organ and our body part. But the brain which need constant oxygen supply from blood would be the major problem. Permanent brain damage would occur after 4 minutes without oxygen, and after 10 minutes, the patient would be a brain dead. So even if the medic could restarted the heart, it's likely the patient couldn't awake and they'll be in a persistent vegetative state. So far, someone who could survive and recover without major damage and long-lasting neuro/brain damage after stopped breathing for a prolonged time usually is coming from someone burried in the ice, or drowned in very cold water. It's theorized that the reason is the very cold temperature, often sub-zero, significantly slowed the metabolism and helped the brain to get minimal damage from the lack of oxygen on a prolonged time. There must be another reason why Muamba could survive this. It's an amazing and sort of miracle, sure. But i really can't fathom how he can survive without oxygen supply to his brain for more than an hour, in a normal temperature. There must be something else, maybe the heart not entirely stopped, just going into erratic rhytm with a very low pulse.
@dalfifran7572
@dalfifran7572 2 жыл бұрын
@@zubin081 Just watched the interview and more detail of this. He got CPR immediately on the pitch, and the doctor doing a cardiac massage all the way to the hospital while clearing his airway. This effectively acted as artificial blood circulation, and his brain did indeed got the oxygen needed for the duration when his heart stopped beating. So i guess that answer why he's still survived even after his heart stopped beating for 78 minutes.

@@TheSebjons I think you're right that it is a bit higher for them. But sadly tragedies do still happen like with Marc-Viven Foe and Patrick Ekeng. Even if they survive, as with Abdelhak Nouri, who was only 20 at the time of his cardiac arrest, they can suffer irreversible devastating brain damage.

We need to wait to see what medical experts determine, but if there is any risk at all he would be crazy to push the envelope. He has made his many millions and is still under contract at Inter until 2024. By that time he will be 32 and a half. I'm sure Inter have insurance that will take care of his salary until then.
