Old grumpy Bill Jenkins, he would drive his car back down the track the other way. I remember he did that in a race with ol'Dandy, of all people.💯

This is what made me Love Funny Cars. I watched this with my dad when i was 4. Hooked on it ever since and i still love it today at the age of 39.

+ Charlie and Solamente Vees - Couldn't agree more, Steve was genus!!! I saw a feature of him showing his personal muscle car. Does anybody else remember this and what kind of car it was? Any guesses?

You absolutely could not beat Evans & the legendary Dave McClelland. Dave is the GOAT of all race announcer's & Mr Evan's was his equally Great Wingman. A better pair has NEVER existed 💪😎👍

I love a good blast from the past I grew up in that era seeing those cars as a child to the grown man but it is fun you see actual cars not aerodynamic plastic fantastic

In 68 or 69 I saw a new type race car at Humboldt Ia for a first time,with names like Snake and Mongoose ,it was a funny car! little did I know!

Saw Color Me Gone at US30 many many a time along with Chi-Town Hustler and even Don Schumacher's Stardust in the 70's. Bet a cold drink not many on here have seen Don drive a funny car?

@@oldgoat50 yes sir, you bet I have! Irwindale dragstrip, 🤔..bout 1971-72 Don Shumacher's Stardust Funnycar vs Big John Mazmanian's Candy-Apple Cuda in a best 2 of 3 match-race! "The Shue" won round 1 in a close one. Big John won round 2 in an even closer race 🤏 Round 3 the tree flashes Amber & they fire off as one 🔥🔥 I'm mid-track in the stands (tower side) scream'n my little 9yr old lungs out for So-Cal's own Big John & Shue is from Chi-Town, so I'm really root'n for that beautiful Candy-Apple Cuda 😍 They're both thunder'n with header flames shooting out 10-12ft on both sides 🔥🔥🔥🔥😃!! They're swap'n the lead back & forth, BJ, then Shue, BJ, then Shue, BJ is ahead half a car & "POOF" 😫!! The fire goes out on Big John's Cuda & Shue wins the match 😭!! Hope ya don't mind my long winded description, just couldn't help myself 😉👍

I am an old school drag racing fan and this 1000 feet stuff they run today just doesn't do it for me. Sorry to say but today's drag racing is boring to me and track attendance and TV ratings prove I'm not the only one. The cars have no personality and there are no characters anymore. NASCAR is in trouble too for the some of the same reasons.

All so true... The tracks I go to on the Eat Coast absolutely do not have enough shut down track... Wish they did... I don't like the 1000 ft racing either.

Oh man, I'm right there with you on that. I practically grew up at the Dragstrip's of So-Cailf, went to Drag-races from 8days old in 62, thru the 2000's & haven't been to another since 1320 went away! The NHRA was raking it in for decades, but they didn't plan ahead for the cars becoming too fast for many of the tracks & when Scotty K got killed in 08 (🙏 RIP) They, along with the PDA 🙄 Sorry, hell all you longtime fans know this sadsack story 😣 oh well, they get no more $$ from me 🤷🏻‍♂️

I had the Mattel's Snake & Mongoose Slot-car Dragstrip! Santa brought it for Christmas in 1970 (best guess) Had a working tree & little 4speed tranny's on each side of the control box. Green flashed & you had to shift every quarter of the track or you would lose power. At the finish line there was a little garage with a door on both sides that each lane fed into and a checkered flag would pop up on the winners side! I played this thing all the way into my teenage years (always The Snake 😏) & I'm 58 today, sure wish I still had it, I'd be playing it now after watching this video! ✌️😆 Coolest toy EVER! 😜 Thx Santa! Dad I love ya & damnit I miss ya 😞 RIP Pop 1/21/35 2/21/19 🙏 You were the Best ☺️

My pal Jimmy H. & I would get off work around 5:30 on Friday, He'd pick me up in his Hotrod, LoL,1959 English Ford that we put 4 1/2 shackles on. Steaming with 36 H.P. & 4 0n the floor(with a foot, & a 1/2 throw, we'd cash checks at local Drugstore, grab a bag full of chips, & assorted junkfood,& a couple six packs of cold bev.& off to Aquasco Speedway ! Jungle Jim, Virginia Twister & Gassers K.S. Pitman, & the Woopie car out of SPEED Unlimited ! Couple a 16 yr olds Out for broke on another Friday night. . .

At 11:00 or so the stands are totally empty - this just about had to be after the race because before the race ppl would have been in the stands and during the race it would have been super crowded so that's up unless that was at test and tune AFTER the race at Gainesville.

Diamond P sports NHRA Drag Racing. Steve Evans and Brock Yates on Comcast channel 19 TNN- The Nashville Network in Indianapolis. This was when there was NO REMOTE CONTROL. There was a box with a big rotary knob.

Fyi, The wind tunnel they are referring to in Marietta Georgia is owned by Lockheed Martin (a multi degreed Engineer who recently retired from America's largest defense contractor).

mothertree some people tried to run the boss 429 on nitro . not sure if it was problematic or too expensive. the Chrysler engine had a fair bit of development and aftermarket parts available. the 429 was called the shotgun engine .hope this helps a bit

It was the motor that was in the "Boss 429" Mustang in '69.All aluminum and impossible to change the plugs on the '69.It was quite the power house but Ford just was not behind it.I heard there was some Mercury Cyclone's with that same engine, I even saw a couple at "SkunkWorks" !But I was never able to authenticate the truth of that fact so, as you know "Your mileage may vary!"Cheers!

The Boss 429 had a semi-hemi combustion chamber and was called the shotgun hemi because of that. Connie Kalitta figured out there's an issue in the intake port casting that allowed fuel to back up and would pop the blower. He much preffered the 427 SOHC on nitro and was the only triple crown winner in drag racing with the cammer
