Yeah. Admittedly I was addicted until I split with my partner. I needed a social media break. Trying to get back on and engage with actual friends has been impossible. All of the content is negative or makes me angry and I just can't do it anymore. Taking time away from Facebook made me realize how toxic it is.

Close access to everyone) delete all groups, all 'liked' pages etc.. and then you can still get access to your pics, but don't see anyone, and they don't see you. You can then slowly remove / save your pics elsewhere.. then delete.

I have a Facebook account, but haven't looked at much. Got it years ago to keep in touch with some family members who moved across the country.

because traditional news outlets have to replicate social media and online news outlets to stay competitive. more and more people are shifting to purely online based info consumption. it's a "post-truth" and "pro-engagement" world. you can't compete with the mass scale content farms if you do detailed fact checking so everything is ultimately converging to the lowest common denominator.

I just blocked most of the people who post ridiculous stuff. I only left simple folk who post down to earth stuff, like their family, dogs and cats and some jokes or funny memes. Blocked or aggressive posts on covid and anything political. My primary reason for joining facebook was to keep in touch with my friends who have moved to live abroad and i limit my use of facebook only to that.

@@cjlaity1 why wouldn't they take it down altogether? I don't think Facebook has any financial interest in maintaining some "reappropriated" page and then hiring a new admin to run it. If they disagreed with the page altogether, then I'd expect they'd just delete it completely. I do know as a matter of fact that there are lots of Indian scam syndicates that have been able to compromise and steal accounts, particularly those with numerous admins. All it takes is successfully phishing one admin to then delete the other admins and change around the settings to lock out the rightful owners. It's happened quite often.
