I'm not from Ghana but I sincerely feel the pain. We Africans lost a great man.

As a historian, and a Nigerian, am honour to have a nationalist who lived among us. God bless you in heaven and God bless the people of Ghana.

Ghana owes its peace, economic recovery and stability to this man. The current crop of politicians looting the country's scarce resources were all based in the west when things were tough and everything was down but rushed down after this man stabilised the country. He was an Icon. RIP

I must be frank, this man ought to be hailed! I am happy to watch this documentary. We can't write our history without mentioning his name. People will only talk about the negative side of people! Why not the positive side of JJ? His passion to see justice done earned him enviable astute.

It's not every documentary that allows its center to speak for himself. This alone makes it worth watching.

I lived in Ghana between 1996-1999, and my first exposure to national leadership was J.J. Rawlings. He made Ghana the attraction of West Africa, and gave Ghanaians hope.

Growing up in Lagos in the 80s, we had lots of teachers from Ghana. I remember "Uncle Peter" very fondly. Wherever they may be today I pray they and their families are prospering and in good health.

The documentary is worth watching.Rawlings revolutionized Ghana political and economic status.He was a statesman.He remained unbowed even when his critics critized his manifesto.He ensured rebuilding of Ghana was build by all, the old and the young.He didnt mind getting his hands dirty.He was showing orientation on how people should do.He was unique in his leadership.He was charismatic.This is what other African leaders should strive to emulate.

I am Nigerian. Ghanaians should be glad Rawlings cleaned up the mess then before it got too late like the mess we are in now in Nigeria. I can remember a lot of Ghanaians fled to Nigeria living virtually as "refugees" just surviving on the streets to make a living. Most did very low paying jobs but relatively few of them became our teachers and they contributed one way or the other into Nigerian society then. Unfortunately, a stupid civilian regime in the early 1980s in Nigeria declared that Ghanaians should leave Nigeria. That's where the term "Ghana Must Go" came from. Until now we wish someone could do in Nigeria what Rawlings did in Ghana but that is virtually almost impossible now. Nigeria has reached the point of no return and gone over the slippery slope. Sometimes I envy Ghana as a country because someone was able to do something to save your country from going over the cliff. Please keep watch over your politicians and political system like eagles. There is still a long way to go. Life is interesting, because now Nigerians "run" to Ghana to make a living. Maybe some day we would be able to "save" Nigeria from the vultures that are currently controlling the polity and resources. That journey is about starting in 2019 when younger generation of Nigerians with a saner way of thinking will start contesting in elections. It's a long shot but a step in right direction.

The mistake that the Akuffu government made was to allow Rawlings to talk during his trial in 1979. When Rawlings spoke, he spoke for the majority of Ghanaians, won the people and garnered a lot of support from his colleagues. That was where he won the battle. The smartest thing Rawlings did was the peaceful transfer of power in 2001. I remember the fear that gripped the citizens and tension in the whole nation. The whole world was watching and probably expecting Ghana to be yet another war torn African country. It was such a relief to see that peaceful transition. Love him or hate him, Flight Lieutenant Jerry John Rawlings was a great man who came at the time the nation needed him most. Yes he was human, yes he made a lot of mistakes but his contribution to national development was paramount! RIPP CHAMP!!! Otumfour Kojo Agyemang

See the state of the economy of the countries, poor quality of life, poverty-stricken conditions, lack of basic nessarary things of life. With the abundance of resources both human resources and natural resources. Rawlings was a good man, I remember when he came I was a nurse at okomfo anokye teaching hospital. After hard day work. We the nurses will be giving priority for essential commodity s,simply the stores will be holding the goods, Ghana has to be proud of him he really did a good job may God bless him. watched this channel's video on kwame nkrumah and was interested in jj's words so i was of course compelled to watch his documentary my self. definitely one of the most interesting African leaders people I've heard about and its so good that this was able to be filmed before his passing. his personality really shown through. the clips of him doing hard labor alongside ghanian civilians really got to me. much love to him and his brilliant wife from the sierra leonean diaspora

Yes, his son Kimathi was named after the Kenyan freedom fighter and one of his daughters was named after the fabled Queen Amina of Nigeria. The other was named after Yaa Asantewaa, the Queen mother who fought the British. Like Bob Marley (also half Scottish), he married a dark-skinned woman to compensate for his bullying for being "half cast" and other derogatory terms like "broni petteh" (a European vulture).

Ghana people should be grateful such man came when they needed him most. If we had someone like him in my country, we would be a great country. Ghana people are very lucky to have JJ Rawlings. What a great man!

Watching this now the day of his passing away 12.Nov.2020 and I'm quite sad for his passing away even tho as much as my Grandad who was a lawyer and well respected, was one of the people JJ mistreated and also burn down his pub that had built for the community. I grew up hating this man but in all in God we trust and it's God that heals, restore and forgives. I am glad I found peace in my heart to forgive him couple of years ago before him passing away and I'm sure he's not proud of himself with some decisions he made and what he done to some family and hope and pray he's asked God for forgiveness for all his wrong doing before passing away. Its God that forgives, as we're all sinners. May His Soul Rest In Perfect Peace!🕊🕊💫
