Facing My Fears in a $10,000,000 Warhammer Castle!

I've just come back from America where I was invited to a small Warhammer event in a HUGE corporate castle retreat.
I had my first game of Age of Sigmar, went on a magical quest and also had a lot of feelings about Warhammer, anxiety, friendship and how to fit in ...
This video gets a little feelsy but I think it was really important to make, so thank you to the whole Tough Crowd for helping me show everyone just how great you all are :)

@@roguehobbies If I could give you two any advice, having watched both videos, is that when you are in a scenario where your insecurities or anxieties are coming into play - take your time. Work it out. If I were to play with you, Louise, you could take all day to get through it. Wouldn't impact my fun levels at all.

Having suffered with my own mental health issues myself, I not only commend you but admire you for your incredible bravery for opening up regarding your own struggles with mental health. Just imagine how many people you have helped by doing so (if it helps 1 person or 100 people) it starts them on too a healing path that could have been too scary to begin prior to witnessing your own bravery. Thank you so very much 😊

@@roguehobbies Am I right in thinking that it helps because you get to disengage from the other 30 people and switch to being in like an omniscient outside observer mode? Like you're now detached and JUST dealing with your co-presenter, and don't have to deal directly with the 30 other people? That's how that would work for me.

Just showed this amazingly wholesome video to my partner to distract from some of her anxiety about an operation tomorrow. She found it amazing to hear someone describing dyscalculia in such a similar way to how they experience it, and then going one step further to describe the difficulties in playing games and yet doing it anyway. This representation really matters. It made them do a (happy) cry. Because crying is cool.

Hi Rogue Hobbies, I recently discovered your channel. I didn’t know what to expect when I started watching this video but I am glad I watched it. I have always dealt with anxiety that stops me from enjoying what I love the most (miniature wargaming). I have had my fair share of terrible opponents that really hurt my self esteem and that made me quit certain games. Even to this day I have reservations playing new people but I am slowly coming out of my shell especially with the new miniature community I take part in (I play Malifaux) I feel like the best thing we can do for a hobby and a community no matter what game you play is just to be friendly and welcoming. We all deal with our own stuff and usually find miniature gaming as our safe space or what we do to relax. It is a great feeling once you becoming part of a group especially with a group of people you share something in common with :)

Feelings and emotions are part of the human experience and are so often overlooked and ridiculed. Crying in the Frank frazetta museum is not only normal, but the ultimate response for the feelings the power of art should be able to invoke on us. I know I cried my eyes out when I went to the Star Wars costume exhibition in Saint Pete, FL. Me, by myself, a 35 year old 6’ 2” long haired, bearded, construction worker standing in a room full of people looking at me cleaning my eye and nose waterfalls with tissues a kind lady had given me out of her purse. It’s a beautiful thing and it should be accepted and cherished by all.

the thing I love about this hobby is overwhelmingly, people are just so excited to share what they love with people and want them to feel included. The fact that someone who's been such a cornerstone in the Warhammer world for a long time was loved for doing her own thing and starting this channel and subsequently was invited to hang out at a tournament across an ocean and was made to feel like one of the gang is really just what makes everything so special to me. I am low-key envious I don't know the kinds of people that would let me hang out in a giant castle-themed mansion in the middle of the woods.

I loved this video, because as someone who has recently gotten back into the 40k hobby it's really daunting going to new places with people and...joining in? Being yourself? I'm really glad you got so much out of it, thanks for deciding to put the video out, it's helped me and I'm sure it'll help others too

Great video. Maybe it was event and jet lag that played into the anxiety. When I travel now I give my self a day or three just to adjust before meeting up with people or doing events. Adorable and cute frog bag. Keep up the good work.

I went there as a kid for boy scouts! I kept their business card in my kid wallets till it crumbled. Thanks for the memories!

So glad you had an awesome time there and enjoyed your first AOS game. I'm honesty surprised you had not played before. I meet you at the Londen GT last year and have seen you at other events, will look forward to maybe getting a game in at a tournament in the future. Keep up the great work.

I'm glad you managed to have a brilliant time in the end, Louise. I'm so glad you got your 1st game of AOS in. I've only played once myself as im finding it hard to convince people at my club to play it rather than just 40k. Doesn't stop me adding to my aos collection, though, as they are my favourite models to paint. Eventually, I'll have a few full armies to lend to my mates so i can get some more games in. The panic room/castle looked great and always more fun when you've made some cool new mates along the way. 😊
