I make my sandwiches with butter and I gotta tell you, a sandwich with cold butter and salami fresh out of the fridge and a sandwich with soft room temperature butter and salami are two completely different sandwiches. Sometimes I will make two salami sandwiches because I want the experience of both versions. Life is for living, ya know?

I used to work at a liquor store. The vendor who sold Moet was one of the most jaded dudes you'll ever meet. When i asked him how that champagne is pronounced, he shrugged and said "I pronounce it MONEY."

I worked at a certain international Tex Mex chain and we had a tequila we sold for $20 per shot and my sales pitch to young couples on dates was to list off all the tequilas then say “oh we also have Don Julio 1942, but it’s $20 an ounce and I can’t even afford that one”. Made the sale every time.

The second sandwich is a revolutionary idea. Its almost as good as second breakfast. Plus as someone who has worked in sales I am thoroughly impressed with Karl and his technique of malicious kindness. Creates a pleasant evening for the wife and gets to relish in the frustration of the miser.

Upselling to people who can afford it: literally my favorite thing to do at my job. I work at a music store and get people always buying $3000 guitars, but trying to squeeze every single penny from me. So I make up for it by "throwing in" a cable, strings, cleaning cloths, humidity packs, picks, and other silly things that are pretty much all profit. In all reality, I discount the guitar very slightly and charge 100% on all the accessories. End up making huge tickets with tons of small items and puffing up my stats. I love it.

When I worked in a restaurant, the owner obviously wanted to get with his manager so badly, he set up competitions to praise and reward her. He once did “who can sell the most bottles of wine” of this particular brand. It was rigged from the start, as the manger would do wine nights and be in control of who had access to what supply’s. The winner would get a meal out with the owner himself. Like I said he was desperate for a date and more with his manager. When I started my shift, she had already sold 12 bottles and no one had sold a single 1. But much to my delight, this really rich man came in with his family to celebrate a purchase of a new house. I ended up selling him every single one of those bottles and made out I was getting them in just for him and no one else would be offered them. He gave me a £200 tip that night too. When the owner found out I had sold them all and won the competition, he cancelled it and said it was never real and was all a cleaver ploy to get us to work harder. This was like his 4th competition and every time the manager won (through it being rigged) she got the prize...

3:19 I worked at a pier carnival for a summer when I was 15 and I got in trouble for calling people in and when they talked back or got witty at me I tried to turn the dart game into a bet with no real stakes and they would come pay and play and if they won I gave them the prize and like coffee change and if I lost and that was hard because I got good with the bad darts and learned the game because I could play for free, a one time bet didn’t hurt to bad if I lost but the owners got mad when they heard me banter with a huge group of young adults one of who was a hockey player with my sister so at that moment it wasn’t a random group lol

13:44 You just reminded me of one time when I upsold a hamburger patty at mcdonalds. SO, I'm sitting there, 5 hours into a 3-11, bored as shit on back cash, when my friend hops on the headset and dares me to upsell a reg patty (patty for non-specialty i.e. angus/bigmac burgers) at some point in the shift, bets me 1$ I can't do it. I say easy money and take the bet. Next guy that comes through, orders a mcdouble meal and a milkshake, I ask if he's got any plans for the night, maybe he might want a mcflurry or something for later. He tells me no, he's just gonna watch whatever sports game was on that night with his dog, maybe have a beer, but he doesn't like ice-cream. So I say ah yes I understand, read back his order to him to confirm I have it right, and ask "by any chance, might I interest you in a reg patty this fine evening?" I had to explain what the lingo meant of course, but he says yes! He says his dog would love the treat, and I made sure to mark in it the POS system as a no onion patty, because I don't think dogs are supposed to have onions. I never got the 1$ from my coworker but I've since used the experience to leverage my up sale expertise in an interview and got the job :D

I also used to work for an agency at a racecourse bar. I was good at it, but the bar manager wanted me to stay on his bar and I think they only let attractive women work the champagne bar (I am neither attractive nor a woman) so never had this experience. I definitely saw people ordering champers that was far beyond their means to impress women, but they usually weren't the posh twat type. The bar I worked on was for people who had the second cheapest tickets, so not the complete riff raff but also not the really rich people. Generally more of a middle aged crowd. Maybe I would have gone up to a better bar or even a box if I'd stayed there but the agency contact went AWOL and I moved to another city to avoid the job centre forcing me to do unpaid work experience (despite having a job, I still had to go to the job centre every week)

Okay so I once tried the wine thing. Kind of. Story time So I was serving, and this group comes in six or seven people. Not uncommon but Annoying. They come in and I get them seated, ask for their drink orders and this guy asks for a round of this very specific wine. So I say okay. I go back to our upstairs drink station, ring it all in, and someone ELSE fixes my tables drinks. Instead of pouring what I put in for, my manager pours a glass of a much cheaper red wine and doesn’t tell me about it. I serve the drinks and right as I’m about to walk away the guy speaks up and tells me “this isn’t *insert bottle name here* “ I tried to assure him that it was, telling him that “I don’t believe my manager would make such a mistake as she’s the one that pours the wines” so he gets up and follows me to the drink station…. Turns out this guy makes wine for a living… the wine he asked for…
