About to start my 85 coupe...Did buy the detroit speed mini tubs and plan not to trim a thing!!!! use 100% of width!!! Great job on those , they look great.

I use a huge chunk of dirty cold steel as a heat sink when I'm welding in roll cage feet. Like an anvil base or a sledgehammer head. I don't even know what it is. Possibly a weight off a tractor? Either way weld doesn't really stick unless you pour in a lot of heat. I'm not welding up huge holes though, just where I blow through. If it does stick its got enough leverage to break off.

How do you deal with the rock guard on the lower doors etc

I apologize if I missed it if it has been explained before, but how does that copper pad on the hole filler back plate not absolutely melt into the weld permanently? I can't get my (admittedly inexperienced welder) mind around it.

Copper acts more as a heat sync because it has a much higher melting point

New follower here! Enjoying this build series. will the factory mini tub allow you keep the interior in the rear with little amount of work? I assume you won't be running rear interior since you're trying to save weight but i'm super curious on how it would fit for anyone trying to do a same style mini tub and wanting to keep as much interior as possible.

Yeah everything still fits as normal with some very minor trimming on the plastics
