How about "that's not in the script and I ain't wearing it?" I am a little bewildered by how that became a life-altering experience. Not to belittle Ms. Ringwald. I bet there's more to that than what's being told here.

I love Molly, but I agree with Haviland Morris. Molly can easily wait to show her kids these movies and explain real life to her in the process. Plus, what a writer creates, doesn't mean they endorse it. Look at every other movie that has someone murdered. That doesn't mean the writers endorse murder. And, casting judgement on today's norms vs norms of a different era, is ridiculous. Everyone one of us are doing things now, that future norms will frown upon. We don't know what that is, and that's the point. What Molly is doing is so silly,.....but I still love her.

Well, one of his principal muses, for a start. I think it's valid. Weird Science was almost deliberately creepy. Eighties teen movies generally had some mask-off misogynist parts, John Hughes was at least honest and frank about what itchy little pervs his teenage male characters are.

She sure didn't mind taking the money for her early movie roles or the accolades. Maybe she can cleanse herself of the 'problematic' feeling by donating all of the money she earned doing those movies to young women's charities. I like her movies; they are what they are. I don't care how anyone else wants to analyze every bit of every movie to tell everyone else what to think about said movies.

She's an actor and could have turned down roles she thought were 'problematic'...she didn't so stop whining about it now. The movies were good, made her a well known name and then one incident caused to leave the profession...there must be more to it than that.

Spot on. Either she probably had a lousy manager to get her "interesting, challenging roles" or simply wanted the money and instant gratification, like most of former teen stars of the 80's. About that incident, yeah... there's more than meets the eye. Reminded me of Amanda Peterson

The film Sixteen Candles actually implies that the drunken Caroline (who's an adult) commits statutory rape of the freshman Farmer Ted. She is the instigator and initiator - stubbornly ignoring Ted's pleas to control herself, and also surreptitiously giving him some of her birth control pills (which she also takes); also, Ted has no memory of the event afterwards, suggesting that he must have gotten as inebriated as Caroline, while the prom queen Does remember (and states that she thinks she enjoyed the encounter). But it's a movie - and perhaps the Best teen movie Ever.

So I saw The Breakfast Club once in the theater and I liked it, the characters seemed like schoolmates from my high school years in the Seventies, tho' I suppose a lot of the Seventies was still around for the Eighties. And with any decades-old movie, it is reasonable not to like certain scenes or whatever, just as it was reasonable to be concerned with what was happening back then in real life, which movies more or less represented. And it is good to discuss and debate those depictions and glorifications all these years later and I still wonder, as an aside, how that song from Grease still gets played on the radio, the one with the line where the guy asks, "Did she put up a fight?"

I really like Molly, she's the prettiest woman I've ever seen. Also, sad that the acting world is so sick, I personally think that there is nothing wrong with the panties scene or some behaviours showed in the Breakfast Club because it's just a movie, the problem starts when people cannot separate fiction from reality, both for those harrassing women and for those too prude to think art should be censored, both cases seem to be unable to separate fiction and reality at some point. But I'm glad to see Molly coming back and making more and more varied roles these days

Seems to me the character of Ted AKA The Geek (played by Anthony Michael Hall) was himself wasted evidenced by his having no recollection of what happened between him and Caroline the next day. Seems the thing nowadays is to judge the past by the now. It is also interesting to hear actors dissing their past roles that made them famous. These films came out around 40 years ago and what was acceptable then is not now, especially in light of our woke , everything is offensive society. From what I understand Molly had a lot to say about the scripts and the casting. You also failed to mention that Hughes wanted Molly for a new movie but she turned him down. He told her that he would never offer a role to her again. I wonder how much this has to do with her new attitude to her and Hughes movies? Of course, now that she wants to act again she has to play by Hollywood’s new rules and that involves nay saying her past. I have seen all Hughes’ movies and they are pretty tame I see no reason that she should be ashamed.

Great works of art portrait reality. Real people arent always PC. Life isnt a safe space. Bender was the way he was because of his upbringing. He was an outcast, a criminal. How can you not understand that his predetor like personna while seducing claire came from his life story? People now have a very superficial look on art: dangerous even. Now, we want art to portray the PC ideology. Wonder why the film industry and music are collapsing? art is gone. power now controls art. ripping it fom its fundamental role, which has alway been to show what is hidden and to criticize power.

I guess I wasn’t woke.I never thought the geek in 16 Candles raped the character in the purple dress.I never even thought they had sex since they both woke up with their clothes on.The girl even told the geek she liked waking up in his arms. John Bender would be considered a pain in the ass and a bully today, but back then,I think ‘The Breakfast Club’s ‘ audience wanted him to end up with Claire. We believed she wanted to be his girlfriend and were happy for the couple. My enjoyment of these movies has been ruined.I won’t watch them again.
