And, OH YEAH, Anderson is NOT looking his age, but with MY MOM turning 78… yeah, I can just imagine how much his body was telling him to SLOW DOWN!! I was born in Mpls a little over a year before Richard Dean, and I too worked for a while in St. Cloud. He was one of my favorites actors from SG-1. The show just didn't have the same umph after he left, as there was always that spark between Jack & Samantha, then suddenly ... he was gone.. A great down-to-earth fellow Minnesotan. ❤

my dad is turning 73 this month, we were raised on RDA stuff like Mac and SG1. He's one of our childhood staples, so when I met him at a con I got an autograph for my dad as a present. My dad got emotional that I thought of him when I met RDA given I wasn't feeling well when I was meeting him, he thought I'd get a photo and that was it. RDA was just super sweet and happy he still had fans in the same age group as him.

Richard Dean Anderson was who made Stargate SG-1 such a treat to watch. I loved his grumpy character and thought he was better looking than he was in MacGyver. I believe neither of the shows would have been what they became without him in them. The last MacGyver jut didn't live up to the one who he portrayed. I always thought, if Stargate SG-1 had been real life that I would have liked to be a friend of Jack O'Neill because he'd keep me laughing. It is good he stepped away to be a bigger prt of his family's lives. After working 38 years, I stopped working when I ha a total knee surgery and afterwards became a caregiver to my mother who developed Dementia. I was lucky that I was able to be a caregiver for my dad, my mom and my brother, being at their bedsides when they died, all because I had left the workforce. Richard Dean Anderson needs to given applause for putting the needs of his family ahead of his acting career.

He had an amazingly successful career. I loved him as Mac and as O'Neil. His retirement was well earned.

We dont get General Hospital in the UK however MacGyver yes love that one and we to refer to the name in the same way. My favorite is and always will be Stargate SG1, he was my favorite character. Richard Dean Anderson rose to fame on the soap General Hospital which is still running! His portrayal of Jeff Webber rose him to stardom before McGyver as in the case with so many other famous actors and musicians, Rick Springfield, Ricky Martin, John Stamos, Mark Hamill and several women as well. They all were easy on the eyes but had talent as well. Richard Dean Anderson and Rick Springfield were my favorites.

Anderson wasn't afraid to allow his character on Stargate to tell jokes -- even though many of them bombed. But his comedy also allowed him to shine in serious moments -- and that's the mark of a good actor -- to be able to express a full range of emotions without going overboard with it.

I love that he values life experiences more than fame or money. He will never regret putting his relationships first.

Richard Dean Anderson has been one of my favorite actors on General Hospital. Then MacGyver has been my favorite. Then Stargate and Jack O’Oneill became my favorite. I’ve watched MacGyver and Stargate at least three times in reruns from beginning to end. I’ve since purchased the complete videos. I don’t blame Richard for retiring while he can still enjoy his family. But wish he would do one more movie for the Stargate series. Enjoy your family and your retirement, Richard. As a matter of fact I rewatched the whole series and the movies yet again this past summer. He was on General Hospital first as Jeff Webber. I watched him first on that show. Then he starred on Seven Brides for Seven Brothers which only lasted one season. And then 1 season on Emerald Point N.A.S. before MacGyver.

He will always be MacGyver or Jack O'Neill to me. I loved both his roles, no one can replace him for either role.
