@@neon3959 I don't argue with you on your personal perception. I tell you the fact. Monterrey coach did state very clear: He wanted to block Messi. After the game, he admitted that Messi is the greatest player. He knew exactly what was going on the field. He didn't say the Monterrey players are better than Messi. This is the fact. I don't have any reason to hate Monterrey (I'm not an Argentine nor a white American). If Monterrey beat Inter Miami in a very convincing way, I would admit that and I would be very happy for them. The truth is Monterrey won just because Inter Miami's defenders played a lousy and terribly unprofessional game. Talking about 3 goals of today game, all of them are from the mistakes of the goalkeeper and defenders. They are not from a very well-organized and strong attacking from Monterrey side. So, getting back to the debate here, it's not Inter Miami who were praying to win. It was Monterrey that was the lucky team to win. It's nothing wrong to say "they pray for Inter Miami to make mistakes". That's the fact. Inter Miami players did not wait for Messi to score a lot. They believe (and this is the tactic) that Messi would draw the attention from their opponents, so it would create some space for other Inter Miami's strikers to attack and score. Their plan did work well until the mistake from Calendar. (The face of the Monterrey coach was extremely intensive during the first half). And the rest of the game is history.

It's not that Monterrey could keep Messi off. Messi played thousands games like that. He knows how to sneak in no matter how the defense line got heavily blocking him. The thing is the team has to be patient and defensively well. If Inter Miami defense line worked better, in time Messi would break thru Monterrey defenders. Looking at Messi's face today, he was not frustrated. It's not his fault. It's just a bad luck day for Inter Miami.

Couldn’t get the ball to messi. He could barely do anything when he did get it( partially his and partially his teammates fault) . Couldn’t create anything without him, so open defensively, couldn’t keep it and kept turning it over( two of three goals were from turnovers). What a horrendous performance.
