Messi can pass, dribble, shoot inside and outside the box, curve the direction of the ball, and playmake, could CR7 or Ronaldinho do that on the consistency that Messi did? Ronaldinho is the actual challenger here, not Ronaldo. It is harder to compare Ronaldinho and Messi though, since Ronaldinho was more of a midfielder and Messi is more of a forward, so the shooting thing is kind of unfair, but their playmaking is a fair comparison. But on the other side, I'm pretty sure he said Messi was better than him, which would imply that Messi certainly can do many things that Ronaldinho did, and in some things Messi was even better.

You can only understand the psychology if you are a defender or soccer player. When you have a a player you already know is exceptional on the pitch and you are responsible for getting the ball off him or stopping him, you are in different state of awareness and probably too self-conscious of the responsibility to the point that the "fear" of him getting the ball pass you eventually get the better part of you. That is why it looked unreal as those defenders fall pass him like packs of card, because they are already done before he got to them. Why?
