I really love Portugal. Great people, art, saudade... and pasteis de nata. I was in Lisbon and Porto once, I still remember those awesome ruas, those buildings, i loved it so much. In Paris, where I lived for a long time, I used to take my daily coffee at a little portuguese coffee shop, a warm place hosted by a beautiful old man, Eurico, it was like home. Greeting from Chile to the beautiful portuguese people.

I lived in Brazil some years in the second hakf of past century. So I had the chance to learn Portuguese language, which I can still manage almost correctly. It was also a good opportunity to become familiar with Portuguese music, like "Uma Casa Portuguesa", "Lisboa Antigua", "Rosinha Dos Limoes" and more, as well as Brazilian ones, like "Naquela Mesa", "Cidade Maravilhosa", "Sonhos" and much more. My dream is to visit Lisbon before it is too late for me. (I am 81 now). Greetings from Lima, Peru.

My wife and I have been in a very small fado restaurant last week in Alfama. Half of the crowd was Portuguese people. We fall in love the atmosphere and the music. I guess we were in the right place. Since then I listen everyday Fado music. So melancholic.

Fado is a powerful expression of Saudade, of that which can't be translated into words but can be felt in the "higher language" of song and the instruments. Portugal is a very under-rated country, but having travelled there I was impressed by the beauty, treasures and sites all across the country. I attended a Fado show my last night in Porto, up until the moment I had to leave for the airport, and immediately so got a small taste of what Saudade truly means.

I went on an ancestry trip to Portugal - Portimao and Lisbon. I was fortunate to have arrived in Portimao during a festival in the evening and was able to listen to some live Fado sung by a stunning artist. I can't wait to go back sometime ;(

Portugal! I remember fields of wild flowers, unspoilt beaches, lovely Lisboa, historic Sintra, every tiny village having a cafe and lovely warm people. I stayed in a tiny village where black clad old ladies sat round the village well. That was in the1980's I wonder if all that remains now, with the EU and modernisation. Obrigada Portugal for some lovely memories and a very special obrigada for my beloved Portuguese Water Dog, Rysalka Zeus, other wise known as Manny, much missed and much loved. Saudade indeed.

Beautifully haunting. As I listen, I feel an ache rising in my chest that spreads out into what surrounds it. If you welcome it in, it can be cathartic. At some special points, the embrace of these musical waves leads the eyes to catch a little water, welling forth from a heart long washed by tumultuous currents. I am lucky to know this lovely music, rich in depth of feeling. Feels like a sound kindred to me, one I had been long looking for.
