Fagradalsfjall / Geldingadalir Volcano in 4K

A few viewers of my other videos of the Fagradalsfjall / Geldingadalir Volcano comment that they would like to see a version with no music, so here is a real-time (no slow motion) video in 4K. The sound is the best reconstruction I could achieve from the various recordings I made of the Volcano, it was always extremely windy so getting good sound was tough, but this will give you a very good idea of what it sounded like while I was there. Shot with a Sony FX6 and FX3, Sony 200-600mm lens and Sony 24-240 lens. Most recorded to an Atomos Ninja V+ as raw, also Sony Xperia Pro used for monitoring. The drone is a DJI Mini 2 drone, I made 2 flights around the Volcano. In the next couple of weeks I plan to upload some HDR versions of the videos.

What amazes me ( and I have been watching closely for it) is how this volcano has grown its lava tubes so fast.

The massive outflow of this beast is astounding.

The long-average outflow is only 13 m3 per second, but if you calculate the flow during the eruption which lasts about a minute, the short-average from that minute is over 140 m3 per second. Peak flow , my guess, is about 300-400 m3 per second.

It is still surging but the lava fountains have stopped. Much of the flow disappears into lava tubes that are under the dark crust, so can't be seen.

By thin do you mean low viscosity?

1. exceptionally hot, 1150 C magma directly from the mantle (15 - 50km deep). 2. It's mafic or basaltic lava with low silica content, making it just about the runniest lava there is. 3. The conduit has widened, allowing gases to escape the magma earlier. Low gas content = less viscosity. 4. Lava tubes insulate the lava keeping it hot. It loses maybe 100 degrees(C) over a few kilometers.

@@MegaSkills9 Another reason is that the lava isn't being spewn all over due to the fact the lava lake has deepened (crater rim growth). It has become significantly wider too. The gases can then release in a less violent manner, you can now see the lava is simply pushed over the lip, in the process staying hot. My estimate that peak flow can reach up to 250 cubic meters per second.

Awesome , clear, and stunning footage. But ... Edits are annoying . I like to see one thing from beginning to end uninterupted , then move on to the next one .
