Dude.. your F-type videos are ridiculously helpful. I’ve been watching them randomly since last year when I was shopping for an F-type and since then bought a 2015 R. The car only has $6k miles on it but I’ve taken notes on everything from these videos. It’s so difficult to find quality info on what to look out for, results of a tune, etc.. especially on the same make model and year. Better believe I’ll be checking my differential breather. Seriously man I really appreciate these videos.

The Pinion seal is only a few dollars but you have to take the exhaust off to get at them - Time to consider upgrading to some SVR titanium ones. Good to see you are keeping an eye on your F Type they are easy fixes and for a 550 Bhp these vehicle are very cheap to maintain. I can't wait for your pinion fix video 👌

Sensible and informative advice from first hand experience from someone that is happy to get involved in the diagnosis of the problem as that is what costs the money then all you have to do is pay the dealer the 2 hours labour to fix it not the 3 hours diagnosis they would like to have charged on top Good work you handsome dentist and you even have my partner watching you , she does drive a convertible white F type 3.0 S with a red roof so I am sure it's just for the Jag tips

Same type of problems on some Land Rover models especially the LR3 where the diff breather filter will get clogged. Well known issue in the LR forums. Some have fixed this by replacing the breather with a more robust unit, replacing the fluid and adding AT205 Re-seal to the diff. This will soften (condition the seals) and stop the leak. This method is only helpful if no damage has occurred to the diff. It's a quick and dirty fix, but it works if caught early enough.

Been wondering if this would work. Is it a good solution though as most oil stop leak additives state that they are absolutely not to be used in wet clutch environments as they have a detrimental effect on clutch materials. Is this the case for the F Type rear diff? Cant seem to find if the clutch pack on the e diff is wet or dry. Does anyone know? Cheers

If I may add some to the discussion - the cap to the breather is on VERY loose. If you accidentally knock it off and it gets stuck somewhere ... get a blower / compressed air and start shooting under the car and it should hopefully drop out. That's what happened to me today. Again, it's not held on by any threads ...just three small notches.

Appreciate this share as an F Type owner, but certainly don't see myself undertaking this ! what is the mileage of your car that this seal failed ? Why would the seal fail ? take the average sedan for example (Honda !) which can go up to 200,000kms (+150,000 miles) with no differential problems.
@skrrtgarage3922
@skrrtgarage3922 4 жыл бұрын
All of that info is in this video and in a previous video I made about the differential. The car has 38k miles, but it can happen much sooner. Seals fail from too much internal pressure or high milage. Mine broke because the “breather tube” was clogged and the diff had too much internal pressure

Nice vid! Are the dealers replacing with a more durable seal or a newly designed breather that doesn’t get clogged? 4-800 ain’t that terrible; I was expecting worse! Do you know if the RWD V6 has this same diff?
@skrrtgarage3922
@skrrtgarage3922 4 жыл бұрын
To my knowledge they are just replaced the same seal and may/may not be checking the breathers. Yea 400-800 isn’t bad, but if it goes undiagnosed it turns into a new differential..the v6 “s” does, the base v6 has one very similar

Hi Skirt, I was watching your video and you said that's when driving the car hard and breather is clogged that's what leads to the pinion seal failure, I have 2015 XJR and it had the pinion seal replaced under warranty by the previous owner, is that a definite sign that the car was driven to its limit?
@skrrtgarage3922
@skrrtgarage3922 3 жыл бұрын
Yes and no, I feel like these pinion seals are pretty weak on Jaguars. Overall seals on cars are maintenance items, meaning they were never meant to last forever. So to answer your question, it’s possible but it’s also possible that they were just unlucky

@skrrtgarage3922
@skrrtgarage3922 3 жыл бұрын
Theoretically you would be just pushing the contents of what was already in there back in. So if you are worried about it, then start with the cleaning of the breather then do your oil change. Also, the drain cap has a magnet to catch any extra debris

hi skrrt. I am looking into buying a 2014 jaguar f type s V8 with 60,000 miles on it. I am getting a great deal for around 30,000 USD. I am from Saudi Arabia and I have looked at all your videos and I really appreciate your helpful guides on what to look for before buying the car. However, is there anything else I should loo for? I am planning to install velocity AP tune on it with the pulley to get the 495 HP V8s to 600HP. Do you know any other tuners who might be better?

@@skrrtgarage3922 Just because nobody seems to have said it here: If you use jack stands like this, they could fail. If a seal fails on a jack, the car will drop in a fraction of a second, and the jack stands might shift under the falling car and not support it properly. You're supposed to use the jack stands to support the car by lowering the car onto the jack stands before working on it. You can still leave a jack there as an extra safety feature, but the car is supposed to be resting securely on the jack stands when you're underneath it. It's already an older video, so maybe this isn't new to you anymore, but for anyone reading this, please learn how to use jacks stands correctly.
