Air France ordered the Airbus A380 shortly after the turn of the millennium. However, their operation with the aircraft would be significantly reduced, all things considered, with several poor reviews and other concerns with the aircraft. So, was the A380 a failure with the airline?

Air France never made much effort to establish Concorde Air France had little enthusiasm for the A-380 Air France is the Common Factor, Says it All?

I flew on the AF A380 on Paris to Jo'Burg (and back) a few times. I loved the experience. I prefered to sit upstairs at the back near the second to last emergency doors (more leg room and only 2 seats at the side of the aisle). Such a shame they got rid of them but understandable.

I think Air France just didn’t planned on proposing the same kind of 1st class experience other carriers did. They wanted the A380 for its capacity rather than for its possible luxury. The real strength of Air France is its premium economy, which has always been greatly appreciated by passengers. If you want outstanding 1st class, you fly Emirates or other airlines from the Gulf. However they made a mistake by proposing this « light » 1st class to an excessive price.

The A380 & AirFrance relationship has always been a bit of a curious tale. AirFrance could only support them on a very few select key trunk routes. Unfortunately for them, it was simply not meant to last. I could also say the same thing about Thai Airways. It was too much for what they actually needed.

As it turned out the era of the 4-engine passenger jumbo was from 1970 to 2020. The A380 only showed up for the last 15 years. A bit like the guy who works the late shift, who shows up at the party as the other guests are starting to leave.

Air France failed with Concorde too that service was a disaster to in comparison to British Airways, I remember watching reviews of the Air France 380 in various classes, it was really embarrassing for a National airline But still a pity that they couldn't make it work.

There A380s was too old and cabins were out of date to quickly. They flew this plane on their pristine and high demand African route to Abidjan.

Just don't think they ever needed that kind of capacity. But as you said, I think them being the French national carrier was a lot larger a driver of that purchase than appears

Air France should have had a much smaller order. There was no way they could (even without the pandemic) use 9 A380s. They could have easily taken 3 or 4 and focused on making a better first class product.

After watching video, i do understand why Air France retired all of their A380s sooner than later in late 2022.

The A 380 is a great plane. I got tears in my eyes when I saw about almost twenty of them parked on the airfield of Teruel Spain, at the beginning of the pandemic. Air France has never found the marketing-key for the A 380. It is losing money for years. KLM is now in the same company and does well. It is just an issue of knowing to please your customers instead of good relations to your government. The French government is paying for the losses of Air France for decades.

I love the A380, the Emirates Business Class and 1st Class experiences are exceptional. However my experience in a BA A380 in economy was the polar opposite and showed how poor layouts can kill the flying experience.

For airfrance yes. But singapore has done well. My son has flown on it a lot and loves it

Air France proceeded to refurbish the 777 cabins instead, which they plan to keep around longer. No sugarcoating it. The A380 was a failure with Air France, mainly due to a generally poorly received interior when compared to other airlines. However, most of the airlines that ordered the A380 really couldn't make it work financially, because the success of operating the aircraft depended heavily on a high load factor, which is basically seasonal for most airlines. Emirates is able to make it work because the airline is substantially subsidized by the UAE government.

Man, that 380 is a beautiful bird. It makes the 747 look like it was knocked together by the Wright brothers.

It nothing to do with the A380, it's Air France, they couldn't manage Concorde either. Very poor Airline.

tomosb95. Totally agree with your comment, the crash of the AF Concorde gave them the excuse to retire them prematurely.

I have to say that I don’t believe that Air France’s Premium Product look worth it even if you paid for Econmy. It looks like Booking a Michelin Restaurant and getting a slice of bread with some cheese and sitting outside in the rain OR booking a stay at the Burj Al Arab and being given a Tent and told your spot is beside the toilets. It’s definitely 💯 the sorriest product. It’s an amazing Aircraft and Fantastic to be on perhaps the Gulf Carriers have spoiled their Passengers too much?

The future is in the A350 and 787. I love the 777, but I dont see much future for 77X program. CARRIER'S have 2 plane options that can complete their missions with a full cabins and twin engine economy.

B777-9x is a twin engine airplane. Why would it not have much future? And how about A350-1000? As of now, more than 460 B777Xs have been ordered, not much of a future for B777X???

It is a visual treat, to say the least. I once only flew Air France from Paris to Dubai. Gorgeous aircraft, and a wonderful experience I will never forget. I am surprised Greta Thumberg allowed this plane to exist? A joke, I could care less what Greta Thumberg or any other half-witted climate change freak thinks.

I never understood the reason for them when they could use the 787, 777 and 350 to make their operations more profitable. I get the fact that Airbus is French but you are responsible for running your business efficiently. No one bats an eye at Delta and not flying Boeing so AF doesn’t have to buy whatever they don’t need. Flew their 380 twice, to and from LAX…not impressed, more impressed at their Premium Economy.
