I had this happen once during a blood draw, and when I came to I recall feeling extremely relaxed and calm, like I came back from the greatest sleep of my life. It reset my brain temporarily. It was amazing.

Awful experience but here’s what happens with me: It happens with needles for me. Blood tests and vaccinations. I feel fine and trick myself into thinking I’m not nervous, and then it hits. It starts with everything getting wavy and dark, then I can’t hear anything besides muffles of everyone panicking around me. usually someone will sit me down, because I can’t even move on my own because of how weak I feel. I get extremely hot, and my body will be very sweaty, and I’ll feel super dehydrated and in need of juice or water eventually, I’ll just fall and blackout. it takes a few minutes to recover, but then everything’s back to normal. other people have commented on my very very pale skin during this. it’s not fun

The biggest problem, other than hitting your head on the way down, is embarrassment. People generally mock blood faints even though it’s a hereditary condition that is not chosen. But there must be some truth to this mockery. The vasovagal response could very well be a survival strategy, a lame defense mechanism, where your instinct commands that your best chance to survive a bloodbath slaughter situation is to drop dead and not try to fight or even run. Because we have egos, to us fight is noble, flight is cowardly, drop is just unbelievably pathetic. But as far as instinct is concerned: fight=flight=drop to maximize survival probability.

This has very much lowered my quality of life. I feel very restricted from so many things that could potentially be a trigger. My own panic became a trigger, and that could happen anywhere at any time. Over the years I've become more resilient, conquering driving and agoraphobia, but I still live in fear of this feeling. I guess you could say I have severe Asthenophobia. And that's how it goes with phobias; any object, experience, or situation you can think of, someone out there will have an irrational fear of it. I even tested positive for some PTSD symptoms because of the first time it happened. It actually made me relive that moment for many years. And the new moments of presyncope retraumatized me. I'm now trying to learn how to change my perspective, establish boundaries surrounding this trauma, and practicing relaxation techniques. I don't know if I'll ever be truly cured, but if I'm applying a change in perspective, it's not about being cured, that's not the aim, it's more so trying to learn not to panic when symptoms arise, and facing that fear of "oh God it's happening again" like I'm dying. I have to learn to laugh at myself. As awful and real as the symptoms are, it's just my body trying to protect itself, and i shouldn't have to be afraid. Again, I'm still learning, but I wanted to leave this comment here so that some other lost soul out there, having similar experiences, knows that they're not alone. I should make a video tbh if it helps anyone, even just 1 person. Sray strong out there. You matter, and this thing we live with doesn't spell the end of our lives.

This happened to me just yesterday. I accidentally cut my finger in the kitchen. I was still able to wash it and got a cotton to mend the bleeding but when I saw the amount of blood it absorbed, I started feeling dizzy. Then i couldn't breath properly, my vision seemed blacking out and my hearing felt like i was underwater, there was high-pitched ringing too. My legs felt weird. I was nauseous, feeling sleepy too. I was so close on passing out but thankfully, I was with someone who helped me seat on a chair and gave me water to drink.

So much heat and i already have the orthostatic hypotension problem where your vision goes black for a while.. So while working i started to feel week and suddenly my vision started to go black and i felt like throwing up i couldn't stand ... I've had this my whole life. I always referred to it as the I need to sit down before I fall down feeling. My dad and little sister have it too. I also have horrible anxiety so they kind of go hand in hand. It's hard to tell if I'm having an anxiety attack or a vasovagel attack. I think the vasovagel attack causes the anxiety. I have also noticed that smoking pot and drinking also trigger it. It's incredibly frustrating and embarrassing and can also be very scary if you don't know what's going on. I have fainted many times in public places or had to sit or lay down in the middle of a store. It's very embarrassing. They say that vasovagel syndrome isn't dangerous. But you can fall and hurt yourself and if you get it while driving like I often do and can be dangerous depending how suddenly and quick it comes on. My doctor told me to avoid places and situations that I know cause that feeling but it's impossible. I get while standing in line all the time and when I'm driving.

And then here to same thing as you.. the Vagal syncope triggers the anxiety.. and the anxiety does not make it better.. i would say the anxiety is a perfect system to warn you.. and it is a good habit to accept the anxiety.. and also hear what it wants to tell.. best wishes!!!🙏🧚🌱☘👀🦉

I’ve had this my whole entire life. Every time I faint I forget what happened like 10 minutes before, I am usually out for 1 and a half minutes and I stop breathing and causes a lot of damage, I am the reason my parents take sugary things everywhere, it damages my brain is well, as most the time I fall on a wall and as a result , become concussed, I am a very accident prone person, and I faint almost every time. My triggers are sight of my own blood; sudden pain; sudden on coming panic and stress. But it’s made my heart beat faster so when I am just stressed , I end up fainting anyway because it does even faster. It is honestly horrid.

Normally drawing blood doesn’t bother me. But when they had to use the tops of my hands I caught ptsd of when the nurses did this to me while delivering my son 13 years ago. So when the nurse today needed to draw blood but had to find a vein on the tops of my hands, couldn’t find it and had to probe around I felt myself starting to sweat profusely and I could barely hear what she was saying, then I couldn’t hear myself speak, it felt like I was under water or had my air pods in. She had to lay be back and wipe the sweat pouring down my face. It also didn’t help that she had me handing her the tubes to swap out while she was drawing the blood.

I'm in desperate need of help. My doctor thinks I have this but I'm not entirely sure. I know I have svt, but these other symptoms I'm unsure of. The feelings I get when an episode happens is a warm sensation throughout my entire body, my blood pressure actually rises when it happens, usually I have low blood pressure but not during the episode, i get a full feeling in my throat sometimes, I get shaky, and feel like I'm fighting to stay conscious. The main thing is my body goes flush hot. Ive not passed out once but sometimes im sitting there fighting it for hours it just comes and goes. One time it happened like 10 times over and over again. I get pain in my chest too but they say it's not heart related. I get pains in my head sometimes too. I feel like stress can trigger it, same with any alcoholic begerave. Sometimes it just happens for no reason though. And this happens very often; multiple times per week. Any input is extremely appreciated. This has been extremely scary for me.

Try to get more professional opinions. You know when something is not right in your body. For me, my body does get very hot, my vision squeezes shut, and I try to sit or lie down so I don't fall. But the first time it happened to me I did not fall, my body ran and opened a door to get out of where I was. I had no vision. No idea how my body did that. After it continued to happen, I stopped trying to fight it. Told myself over and over that I was safe, and I rode the wave until I came to again. I've been told I have slight anemia, low iron in the blood, but I've also heard that vasovagal syncope is an emotional response too. Our entire neuronetwork is a system that works together, and I'm surprised that doctors of the brain don't literally look at the brain itself when giving diagnoses. Your heart needs to pump blood to your brain, but if your brain is not accepting blood then would it cause heavier pressure into your chest? If the parasympathetic nervous system is calmed down with exhalation of breath, then when you're unconsciously holding your breath does that make your throat closed off or feel full? Even professionals are going by their memories of the symptoms of what they could mean for you, so it's really with absolutely all the information, the situations that you're in when this happens, whether you've eaten or drank, your family's history if anyone else has experienced this, that could possibly help. But you're the expert of your own body. When I began accepting this as part of the way I live, it stopped being scary because I know it will pass. But if you're scared that it is life threatening then please get more opinions. Bless you 💞🙏

I've had a vasovagal episode every single time I get a shot or blood drawn. Once passed out in a Bartell's backroom getting an immunization. I woke up and the pharmacist said "You can stop faking it.." Wtf? Most recently I got my blood drawn and I made it through to about 6-7 vials before I started getting overwhelmed. I ended up on the floor with several doctors around me. They had me in a chair right against a wall, so I couldn't rest my head backwards and I ended up falling forwards and hitting my head pretty hard. The med student that administered it was pretty freaked out.

I got it while laughing way too hard. It was late at night and my rommate was sleeping, so I try to keep quiet while talking to friends on discord. Start showing gifs and one got me so hard and start holding back laughter as hard as I can and fainted in the process. I fell off my bed and my laptop went along with me, causing my roommate to wake up and start trying to get me up. It was such a terrifying feeling as I had no idea I was even on the floor. It felt like I was sleeping and I was just startled awake, with no idea where I was. Felt the pain afterwards too.

Do you think it could’ve possibly been from dehydration and strong cough syrup. This just happened to me an hour ago and for those reasons. I’m doing fine, however. I have a slight cold and I wanted to sleep comfortably. My mistake was I didn’t measure my cough syrup intake. I just grabbed a table spoon from the kitchen drawer and took it in that way. I guess I took way too much.

I was at the doctor today for a physical, and I decided to get blood drawn because I recently had a bad allergic reaction. My nurse was unable to find the vein, and she kept moving the needle to get blood. I told her I couldn't take the needle anymore so she took it out, and didn't get any blood. I immediately got really hot, then nauseous, and told my nurse. Then I started to get dizzy and I lost feeling in my hands. At that point, my nurse pushed me down onto the table (because I didn't think I needed to lie down) and my vision started going in and out. I eventually regained full consciousness, but the experience was terrifying. I was given a crap ton of sugar afterward, but it was scary. I don't know if it was from the blood draw, HPV vaccine, or another vaccine I don't remember the name of.

One time when I was donating blood, I woke up late and didn't eat anything. Everything was going fine until I felt nauseated and everything went black. Then I felt like I had died. Everything was bright white and I saw my entire family in front of me. Several second later I came to. The staff laid me down on the donation table and had wet cloths all over my body. Was a wild experience and makes me wonder, if this is what death feels like, it's not bad at all.

I've only had this happen combining alcohol with a strong cannabis strain. Whatever I had smoked made the alcohol I drank twice as strong. So the usual amount that I know I can take became too much. I remember trying desperately to stand up so I could take something to settle my stomach only to feel my BP drop. My ears were ringing loudly, my vision went all red & black, & I lost control & dropped to the floor. After my 4th attempt to stand failed I just laid down in my kitchen floor. It took maybe about 15 mins to subside. This feeling was very different from simply being drunk. I had never experienced anything remotely close to that before.

My 9 year old daughter went through this and was scary. Almost looked like a seizure. She went limp on me right after 3 tubes of blood. She was ok and talking. Then said mommy, my stomach hurts. Thought nothing of it then she went limp on me. Was trying to not freak out. She started trembling and nurse was straitning her legs to circulate blood. This was the 1st she ever got so much blood drawn. She looked pale and then started to moan. After what felt like an eternity, she vomited. After about 10 minutes of vomiting she lied down and was able to walk again. That was the freakest thing I've ever seen. I've seen her having convulsions due to fevers but haven't seen one in the longest since they went away. Now this. Does this go away as you age???? Hoping this event doesn't cause fear of having her blood drawn in the future ☹

I HATE eye manipulation. Meaning when people where contacts that distort the color of their eyes. I had an episode at work when I saw a woman wearing contacts that definitely distorted the color of her eyes. I went straight to the manager’s office and laid down on the floor immediately. Because I took quick action I got over it and went back to work 10 minutes later. It’s very embarrassing because a lot of people do come into the office. And obviously to see someone on the floor is unusual.

Yeah you would've. I get triggers from needles, but I also have got them when people explain medical procedures in detail. Usually its the tunnel vision that is the begging of the fainting and if you don't sit down immediately, you will fall. Happens so quick sometimes, but I now know that once I get the tunnel vision, gotta sit. I also get tinnitus out lots of ringing in my ears, sweaty, and tingly.

Is it normal to have it while defecating? I literally remember waking up around 3 am this morning to a stomach ache and needed to urgently go to bathroom. After that, I had the most terrifying experience yet. I literally had a very strong stomach ache hwile defecating and then started to feel dizzy after that and rocked back and forth. My whole body was sweating profoundly and I was starting to worry if I was going to faint while sitting on a stool. What did help I guess was leaning back and resting against the toilet tank. After the whole ordeal, I had a sudden rush of mucus, through my nose and the other end. Can someone tell me if this can occur during defecating and how to prevent it?

This has happened to me numerous of times. Usually happens when I eat something that doesn’t sit well with my stomach. I start to get mild stomach pain and when I go to the bathroom it starts to get worse and start to feel very faint. It’s a terrible feeling but I just take deeps breaths and eventually it passes. There’s not really a way to prevent it, just to be calm when it happens and don’t stand up or else you will faint! You should also watch what foods your more sensitive, especially capsaicin which is in spicy food.

This is called Situational Syncope, I think. When you lose consciousness after defecation or peeing (heck, sometimes even swallowing or coughing) If you notice it happens again from the same trigger (defecation) you should probably talk to your doctor about it.
