Not a collector of the disney pins specifically (i only have the bi pride one) but are there nightmare before christmas pins and kingdom hearts pins? I love both and would love to add them to my sweater

@@Aburame9595 some fakes actually look really bad 😅 and you can almost always tell a fake from a real (almost). There's nothing inherently wrong with collecting them, just don't trade them in the parks. Cast members have to try and pull fake pins from the boards so nobody gets scammed, and it just makes their jobs harder.

Short version: they aren't made by Disney, and are poorer quality. Long version: because pin collecting is such a big hobby at Disney, there are a lot of faked pins that end up in circulation because people buy cheap lots on ebay of "scrapper" pins to trade or people get scammed hunting for the pin(s) they need to finish a collection or that they particularly want. Signs of a fake include: incorrect color enamel, damaged enamel, missing or off centered mickey head waffling on the back (check the edges and see if the pattern goes all the way to the edge or not - if it doesn't, it's fake), light weight metal that sounds cheap if dropped, jagged or burred edge of the pin, missing or misspelled "authentic official pin trading" logo (I found one that once said "authentig" and another that said "fficial"). There are a few other tells, but those are the main ones to look for. Ultimately how much you care about fake pins is up to you. Technically they aren't supposed to be traded because they aren't Disney pins, and also because some people are pin purists and them trading a real pin for a fake pin is just rude and unfair given that fakes are worth cents and reals are $$, but if you want them in your collection then by all means, keep them. Cast members try to weed out the fakes, but at this point there's so many it's nearly impossible to get them all and still have a pin board. I myself have a few fakes in my collection because I care more about the pin than it's source, but I always bought pin packs of 5/6 to use as traders so I don't contribute to the problem. Ultimately whether you buy these pins is up to personal preference, but be aware that they are fake, so any "rare" finds aren't actually rare, and trading them is unethical, and they'll likely end up hidden away in a box until closing when they're disposed of to be recycled.

@@travelswithjasonf1463 they are, I've seen them in person and, while most of them are okay quality compared to some fakes I've seen, they are definitely still at least 99.9% fake, and of poorer quality than the real ones from the parks.

They are fake, I've been there. The pins are poorer quality than real ones, some are remakes of limited edition pins. Disney Paris and Hong Kong are the two most faked pins after the US

They're fakes from DLP, which is common. Disneyland Paris and Hong Kong Disneyland are two of the most faked pins next to US pins.

Unfortunately, yes, they are still fake. I know they do look legit! But these manufacturers have been at it for years making fakes and have also faked the backer cards. I have seen these myself on the fake pin websites, so I can confirm. It’s definitely hard to believe!

This is a thrift store near Disney World! I don’t want to give out their name as I don’t want them getting hate. But you can find the exact same fake pins in any of the third party souvenir shops near Disney World if you want to look!!! They are exactly the same pins. They buy these from fake pin websites made by manufacturers who stole the molds of Disneys pins and just use cheaper enamel / have minor differences, such as color and quality.

This looks like the hope thrift store. they have some cool non Disney stuff. Not really a Disney fan. Don’t know how this ended up in my shots.

You don't understand how angry people and a lot of kids get when they come to my pin boards and they see fakes or how annoying it is having to pull all the fakes off the boards and throw them away. I have to call security on people selling their fake pins in Frontier land all the time

Unfortunately, they are actually fake. It can be hard to believe since they look so legit, but they did also copy the backer card. I have access to the website where they sell fake pins and these are all included, including the paris pins.

​@pincessshannon it would be nice to see how or why they are fake. From the comments it seems to be the same mold so it's real but not official. So they aren't giving Disney money. Disney pins from the official store aren't even good quality themselves.

Yes, the third party souvenir shops sell the same exact pins, which proves they are fake even more. They buy these pins in bulk from a manufacturer who stole the pin molds and is making them with cheaper / different products. Which if you want to buy them for your collection, is fine! But people have a right to know that a “limited edition of 300 pieces” pin isn’t as rare because it’s actually a fake 😁

Not laughing about it! And didn’t even share where I was filming. Just want to make pin collectors aware so they don’t get ripped off (a ton of collectors do not collect fake pins and will feel duped when they figure it out, it’s just how they are). I did show other merch on my Instagram stories from the thrift store and I do purchase things from them 😁 it was in no way hate to the store, just a PSA to collectors.
