The countries with Schengen laws don't check passports when traveling by train, bus, Tram, taxi, or personal car. I lived in Germany and Switzerland for awhile. It was so damn easy to cross into Switzerland, Germany, France, Spain, etc. I did a road trip with my husband from Switzerland to Spain. We weren't stopped at the French boarder or Spainish boarder. There was one time we didn't realize we crossed into France. The thing that gave us a clue that we were in France was because road signs went from Spanish to French. The only time I needed to show my ID is at the hotel. I only had my ID checked by boarder control when traveling to Germany once. The Germans were looking for a criminal.
