*Dear Friends :-D,
Kindly NOTE that, the absence or presence of ANY of the parameters, is not entirely 100%. For example, the Artist or Craftsman may wish to ADD a bit more clay to REFINE the outside area around the circumferential ManPian 满片 or DiPian 底片 seams, and thus smearing off the presence of these natural Man Pian/Di Pian seams. * Also, these ManPian and DiPian seams are often FAKED on by non-Fully-Handmade pots (jigger-machined, slip-casted pots): the factory boss nowadays, often INSTRUCT his workers to swivel a tool and cut a line to FAKE the ManPian/DiPian seams. NOT ONLY THAT, the factor bosses have recently have new MOLDS that INHERENTLY have a seam on the top circumference and bottom circumference so that the jigger-machined pot that pops out of it, will HAVE FAKE MANPIAN AND DIPIAN SEAMS!
~~~~~~~~~~
Dearest Friends and Buddies, this is one of the higher grade of imitation pots on the market hovering around the US$260-$300 range, sent in by one of our viewers who bought it just a month ago from a certain platform. This imitation pot comes with 1)faked on rear adjoining line 假冒的搭接线, 2)faked stamp on the inner wall (extremely blurred and indistinct) 假冒 内壁章, 3)? low ascent of brush lines (tui qiang gua di 低 推墙挂底 ) , and 4)this is definitely a machined pot 机车壶, but with the likely addition of non-YiXing ZiSha “外地泥” into the main pasty non-ZiSha ceramic mixes to try to imitate the feel of authentic ZiSha pots, and even mimic the patina 模仿包浆 through use of a Fully-Handmade ZiSha pot..
Clues to this pot's machined origins:
1. High weight,
2. Absence of the seams on the outside (if present would reflect the application of the top plate (Man Pian 满片), and of the base plate (Di Pian 底片) in Fully-Handmaking process),
3. Totally smooth transition of the base plate to the side wall (visible on the base periphery/circumferential ring: no seam visible!
4. Rough, very rough and crude, gross jagged edge all round on the top regions of the inner side walls.
5. Basal brush lines 太阳线 on the base plate are NOT uniformly RADIAL.
Other indicators: after him and his friends bought six off from the website, the pot continues to be available (likely machined pots coming off from a commercial, machining factory)
The inner stamp: its presence, its absence or the clearness of the stamp, are not very strong indicators of whether a pot is Fully-Handmade or Fake. However it is a factor which will add up in one's assessment and judgement of a ZiSha pot.
There are even higher imitation pots each costing $100,000s and above coming from highly "skilled" dishonest circles comprising crafters and businessmen, which we do not want to disclose here. Many famous Artists are also involved in such circles. Such circles "serve" the very rich and there is a nickname in China for such unfortunate customers going around in circles (pun not intended) : the so-called "国宝帮" Guo Bao Bang. Collectors of Art, be it any type of Ceramics, Paintings, etc who unfortunately are classed as the "Guo Bao Bang" type of people, are often cheated into paying top dollars for works of Art (hailed to be directly from the Artists, even showing photos of them with the Artists) but they keep getting and receiving the wrong Art works, of course including ZiSha pots. The unscrupulous retailers know of multiple ways to hoax these very rich, and the latter often remain in that realm, unwilling to know their blindspots, remaining in that vicious cycle of spending and spending.
Thank you friends for your time and the journey together to appreciate real ZiSha Art and creations from hardworking and honest craftsladies, craftsmen and artists. Just do honest work, support honest works, remain low key, always humble and willing to learn, and be happy.
Enjoy the tea, the peaceful gathering of friends, and appreciate fine Art and workmanship.
Warmest Regards,
~ Yi_Lei and ian
@charlesperez9976 dear Charles, thank you🙇‍♂️ 🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿🌿 The war is very deep. It is not just versus the counterfeit pots not made of ZiSha. It is also versus the countless, countless numerous Master Artists engaged in the dishonest and money-churning Dai Gong 代工 market. Almost all of them are. They come with certificates too. In YiXing, when you walk the streets now, There are full streets lined up with Jigger-machined pots and all these Dai Gong works as well. Enter a shop, and all these Dai Gong pots all come with certificates. Streets of them. 🙏🏼🌿🎋
@thezishateapotchannel.1675 are there any reviews of other famous clays from China? Guangxi Nixing has been gaining popularity recently for its relatively less expensive price point,would love to see an analysis into its making process (:
What's the main difference between a handmade pot and a factory made one at this level? Will it severely affect the taste? I have a cheap factory made 60ml teapot and it leaks around the lid. That's my main issue with it. Other than that I think it's quite fine for what it's meant for. I want to own a hand made tea pot, I really do, but they are seriously expensive.
I think you answered your own question. As per my understanding counterfeits come in 2 varieties- decently functional genuine yixing clay pots that work fine for the tea brewing but which are marked up and sold as more expensive handmade art pieces by masters thus causing economic loss to the buyer, and outright fakes make with non-yixing clay or worse, paint-mixed clays which can be downright harmful to the users. So if a factory-made pot is sold at fair prices, then you get value for money. Similarly if a pot is sold as an art piece "in the style of yixing pot" but with clear warning not to drink from it, fine. It's when those ethical lines are crossed that there is a problem
Save some spare change and you’ll get one in months time, in the meanwhile research on good sources and info (I like essence of tea and realzisha). Get a cheap porcelain or chaozhou 60ml pot (not a good idea to drink from a random factory 60ml pot) for your needs.
Dear Mr Tan, you can visit us on any of the weekdays at our office at Tower B, Ngee Ann City. We have a strong following. We are firmly connected with only the honest Artists in YiXing. Email us at realzisha@gmail.com , Yi-Lei is from YiXing🎋 and I'm a med doc in Singapore 🌿🌿🌿. Let us know when you are coming, weekdays between 10am to 8pm, and Saturdays 10am to 5pm. Feel, see and handle all the Fully-Handmade ZiSha pots. We are firmly connected with the honest Artists in YiXing. We don't do cheap 代工 pots with those improper Artists even if they are "known" to be L3 or even L2, and even the very notorious bald head L1 正高. We know who to avoid. You can browse our entire collection, and more delightful news in store we promise 😊😄✌️ You will be very happy, and we will have to stop you from buying😅🤣🙇‍♂️... Anyway Mr Tan, don't buy anything on your first visit. Learn first. Yi-Lei shuttles between YiXing, Shanghai and Singapore. We have a strong following. We are very happy to help 🎋🎋🎋
