Tension erupted at a polling station at Raha in Assam’s Nagaon district after a voter made allegations of fake voting during the second phase voting of the Lok Sabha election. This was after 28-year-old Ruksana Begum had gone to the polling station at Chaparmukh Town Primary School only to find out that someone else had cast her vote before her arrival.
"When I went to cast my vote, I was told that someone else cast my vote.
So they asked me to come later," the woman voter said.
She also questioned the polling officers who allegedly did not check the documents of the person who cast the vote in her name.
"They must have the identification of the person who cast my vote. Can’t they check? But they did not check who cast my vote. They just told me that someone else cast my vote. They are not even finding out who cast my vote. They must have all the documents and signatures," Ruksana added.
In Assam, polling is being carried out in 5 Lok Sabha constituencies viz. Nagaon, Diphu, Darrang-Udalguri, Karimganj and Silchar. The state has registered 46.3 per cent voter turnout till 1 pm.
