Weird gamedev: visuals first, game logic later? Just so my game looks appealing from the beginning. Is it a bad idea?

That is pretty clever and not just for marketing. Adding UI elements early gives them time to mature and allows to test the accessability. Therefore it serves the purpose of an in-game mockup. It would be easier to do all the UX work at once as it requires a different mindset. Once you start implementing the actual features it would be much faster as you don't have to worry about UX anymore.

Hi Perfoon, good to see you here! :) Now that you mentioned it, yes, it was much better that I could already see, design and iterate the whole interface! Previously I spent time on separate components just to be wasted because every now and then with a new element in the interface I had to redesign the previous ones as well. :D Cheers!

I'm also starting to reflect more on how to balance marketing with game creation itself. I think it's easy to just get lost in a hole of development and emerge with a Half-Life 3 equivalent quality a decade later, but no one will play it because nobody knows about it. Is definitely important to keep marketing as you're developing - and honestly your game looks pretty enough that I clicked to find out more!

Thanks, feels good to hear that! Well, we will see if it was worth it or not. :D Last time I launched the Steam page too early for sure. But now maybe I'm overdoing it: I could have launched the Steam page in a subpar state like 3 months earlier than it's planned right now... but I decided to perfect stuff a bit more. I'm hoping that it was the right decision. :D

Great video. I agree there's a balance: "make steam page ASAP" and "make steam launch big". For Clomper, it's a long way off Steam, so this is far to early to launch the page. I need another graphics update first. Thanks for the tips!

Glad you enjoyed it, Rob! Indeed, a balance is needed. Because people are going to get attached to these not yet existing features and if in the end they will be cancelled... you know how that ends. :(

@@RobLang Same. :( But I was trying to say that people will get attached to "promised features" and then *the features* get cancelled/replaced. And they will feel betrayed. :\

Careful with "fake it till you make it". Players tend to shred games to pieces if they don't get at release what they were promised. :D

üdv, esetleg a projekttel még szeretnétek foglalkozni? Ha nem akkor egy olyan csapatnak nem adnátok oda akik ténylegesen foglalkoznának vele? Minket nagyon érdekel ez a mod :D (hátha itt előbb látod)
