Also they also had something in common. Disastrous Marriages. Jacqueline with Jason, Angela with Douglas. However, Jacqueline knew it was okay to have a life outside of Falcon Crest. She took Chase away to Europe, he attended Prep School, The The US Naval Academy, served in Vietnam. Yet Jacqueline supported Cole & Victoria with their ambitions and lives, while Angela never allowed Lance to.

My Father told me that when he was a Teenager in 1959 that was the "It" Movie of it's time. Troy Donahue was in The Closet and he as well as Lana Turner worked with Sandra Dee but he worked with her in A Summer Place. Constance Ford was also in that movie and would spend 25 Years (1967-1992) as Ada Hobson (Rachel's Mother on Another World). Susan Sullivan acted on Another World as Leonore Walters #2 and when Lana's Daughter Cheryl went on Trial For Murder of Johnny Stompanato (Lana actually did it) the Testimony was transcribed by Phil Spector future Superstar Record Producer.

In her own way Jacqueline was "Stronger" than Angela. She had a "life" outside of Falcon Crest and she showed her Son Chase he could have a Life outside of it. He went to Prep School in Europe, then attended the US Naval Academy and fought in Vietnam. He had a mother who loved him enough to protect much more than Jason ever did. Also if Chase wanted to be part of Falcon Crest he could have come To The Tuscany Valley to help his Father. Also The Music was fantastic. Hard to believe it's been 40 Years since the show debuted.

Best episode of Season 1 and one of my all-time faves. Those first 2 seasons with Jane Wyman vs Lana Turner were epic. Loved the Gothic overtones and black humor used in FC, too. It had the effect of upping the quality of the show, whereas shows like Dynasty became parodies of themselves fairly quickly, never walking the fine line of tension-drama and humor-the way FC did.
@paulvee1299
@paulvee1299 3 жыл бұрын
Also, the highest rated episode in FC’s entire run. It peaked at #5 for the week but had the highest actual Nielsen rating and share than any other episode. FC would place #2 in the ratings twice, the cliffhanger of Season 3 and subsequent premiere of Season 4, but by that time, actual rating numbers and shares for the show were down.

This is what happened - Producer Earl Hamner considered hiring Lana Turner as she was gathering publicity for getting sober and preparing to publish her memoir. She had just had a facelift, and was hoping to resume her acting career, and her agent Jac Fields was heavily promoting her availability for TV guest starring bit's, high class, one shot, big publicity. They were hoping to emulate Lauren Bacall's comeback. Hamner phoned Wyman to tell her of the decision to cast Turner, and she was upset - according to Hamner, Wyman said "You can't hire her, she's not a lady". Hamner hired Turner, anyway - but what sealed Turner's fate was her unprofessionalism - Diva like behaviour, late to the set, not knowing her lines, demanding constant limousines etc - not to mention that critics noticed her acting chops were not up to speed and her line readings a little flat. As Turner's daughter, Cheryl, later wrote - the Wyman feud was real, but the bigger problem was that Turner simply couldn't adapt to the fast paced shooting required by TV. ( She had later problems on an episode of "The Love Boat", where Turner's lines were trimmed or given to other cast members to speed up the process.) Publicity surrounding her appearance guaranteed an upsurge in ratings , but within the industry the rumours persisted that Turner was 'difficult and expensive ' to employ, fussing over hair and costumes and holding up the set. Hamner decided she was not worth the effort, and let her go after 6 guest gigs on "Falcon Crest", and Turner was rather shocked.

They faked a Birth certificate, and sold the baby to Denault, who took the child as his own, and raised him to be like Angela.

Absolutely couldn't agree more. Turner was fun in Peyton Place and Imitation Of Life but she never had any real presence. Wyman was a hard-working actress who gave all the other night-time villains (Abby, Alexis & JR) a damn good run for their money. Her eyes sparkled and she always looked she was having the time of her life playing Angela. I always wished they'd found a way to bring all 4 villains together into some kind of mini-series.

She may not have had the range of Wyman, but she still gave us some terrific performances ("The Postman Always Rings Twice", "The Bad and the Beautiful", etc.). Krystle wouldn't be dumb enough to get her giant diamond ring stuck in the swimming pool drainage system and idiotically drown like Maggie was. Seriously, it was one of the stupidest deaths in prime time soap opera history.

I agree -- Lana Turner was a great beauty, a great star, and a dreadful actress.
