Awww, bless! Desperation for food. That's the first instinct for all living creatures. I'm so glad to read in the uploader's comments that this fragile cute little baby made it, grew up and flew. It is extra cute to see how it falls asleep after eating at the end of the video.

If you interested you can watch this nest live here, nesting season (egg laying) usually starts around march and cameras are off in offseason: wildlife.ohiodnr.gov/falconcam As im typing this comment there was 3 eggs layed by Durand. Also note for those who saying she is feeding chick badly in this video, this video was from her first mothership (she hatched in other monitored and streamed nest, so it was known that it her first baby) so she figures things for the first time, also had very problematic and unexpiranced young male partners at beginning which didn't help well. But this baby (as only one egg hatched) successfully grown and flaged, so you don't need to worry ^^

Thats why daddy switches for few hours per day with her so she can hunt and feed herself. Each bird spiecies has different methods to keep mother in shape, daddy bird usually at least feeds female aspecially during incubation, but also got pigeons that shere responsibility 50:50 and dad do incubation too (in case of falcon dad also incubates during those mentioned hours), with birds that hatch with ability to move mom can move too in this case daddy bird usally not get involve, but there exceptions like coots and swans where parents are too loyal to each other to leave one behind.

Ok FIRST OFF. 99% of baby birds INCLUDING raptors BEG for food nonstop. Most would keep eating until they explode if you let them. Second the mom still has to eat. And finally she WAS feeding the baby. Especially towards the end. Are you gonna give your kid a candy bar everytime they cry for one? I hope not lol. Ive worked at a raptor rehab center for over 8 years now. I dont care how "inexperienced" she was with her "last clutch" or whatever. Shes doing a perfecrly fine job now as far as this video is concerned.

You right that begging, but not sure if it's 99%, there chicks that feed for themselves once they hatch, most notably chicken and practically all birds that can walk once they hatch. As for mother feeding herself, i know it quite common behavior to parent eat the food if chick is unable to eat it and in case of falcon parent usually feeds whole thing to chicks, you can see her trying and calling the chick before eating the meat for herself, i don't say this is a bad thing ;p again she was a newbie and there really can be pieces that might be hard to place in to beak of a chick..

I noticed she was trying to teach the baby to swallow, the baby had it's head back screaming with a mouth full of food. There is a lot of work getting their meals ready. With three more eggs laying there I bet she became a Master. LOL

Not true. I've watch hundreds of videos of birds feeding and no way do 99% of them beg. Most just stand facing Mom or Dad waiting to be fed. Some don't even open their mouths wide while waiting. Eagles and owls come to mind. This little bird is the most desperate and vocal I've ever come across. There's always someone in these Comments who feels a need to be all-knowing and preach to the rest of us by delivering a supposed "fact" that is not even true. I put it down to attention-seeking and needing some kind of validation.

Meat is harder to grind up and make into chewy gooey syrup than seeds. I don't know how a raptor's digestion works precisely like a vulture's but I suspect it has microbioflora and fauna that is similar to them. If that is true, this also the mother's way (be it conscious or not) to kickstart the chick's gut flora with her regurgitated meat soup.

I think the chick is just sending out a signal that it's there. Not so much hungry but that it's right there so the adult knows where it is. The food cries are non stop in all chicks, not just these, but falcons have a unique almost radar like and highly pitched noise that it sounds worse than it is. Falcon chicks don't starve much in the nest because they species are probably the most effective hunters there are. They may starve to death if the parents are killed or the nest damaged, but that's about it. This chick, if you watch all the videos, soon is so fat it can't move and grows up and leaves the nest with the other 3 chicks.

+Christopher Spaulding It was there first baby in life she was learning, she failed feed baby with first bit so she eaten herself and try another one. last season before this she failed due to her eggs being nonfertile, she also had young male partner which also didn't know what to do, she herself also had trouble figuring how to incubaste, today she got older male which knows what the deal is and currently they take care of 4 chicks :) Here latest video, check her profile for ealer videos: kzfaq.info/get/bejne/fdp1hdim1M6-d5c.html

This mother peregrine falcon was a bad mother at the beginning. But this is not so simple, because she was developing a techniquewe can for example in the video "El Hombre y La Tierra 05 El Aguila Real" in the section 19:53-20:06. We can see in that video that the mother will gradually cutting meat bits progressively smaller until they are appropriate to the size of the chick. In the present video the recent mother peregrine is, on one hand, confused and inexperienced and, on the other hand, she is gradually awakening the behavioral patterns we have seen in that section of that golden eagle video.

I'm glad to read it worked out well for the baby chick. it does look like the mother is inexperienced. For reference though, Raptors don't regurgitate their food like other birds. Seems like baby is mom and mom is baby. All mom does it make sound, and kid drags it self to mom and helps her to feed. this mom can't even feed baby. But she calls for baby to come and get it.

If that is the case then why do birds grow teeth, scales and long tails as an embryo, and then reabsorb them as they mature? Furthermore, there's nothing separating birds from dinosaurs, they literally are dinosaurs. Theropods to be precise. If birds didn't descend from dinosaurs, why are they STILL DINOSAURS?

I think the camera view here isn't very good, but I ran it through the enlarger and it's easy to see the large bird is trying to feed the little one and not just eat all of the meat. The little one is exercising first born survival skills, which also means bad news for the other 3 if they hatched because #1 will do this to get all the food, and then attack them to keep its spot in the pecking order. The mom here actually feeds the small bird and gets food in its mouth at least 12 times. Keep in mind birds have, in their DNA, survival skills like this. The constant screaming reminds the mom it has to feed it so it will shut up, etc. This bird is well positioned to survive and probably did.

This depends on bird and there feeding merhod which can be very diffrent for each, but in case of falcons, if all chicks hatch in right time and it wont get sick or weaken for some reson there should be zero issue, parent will spread food equily as much as he can, falcon chick survivability is pretty high, most dangeres moment aspecially in such city nest is the flage.
