Welcome to the sport! We need more new members to this remarkable activity. A friend once told me, "falconry chose me, I didn't choose it". That made perfect sense to me, and for the last 40 years I've been fully taken by the sport. As you yell HO-HO-HO! in the video, it reminds me of a flight I had with a friend's white Jerkin, one cold, fall evening; A storm was rolling in, and the cloud ceiling was getting quite low, at about 500 feet. We had spotted several drake Mallards on a medium sized pond, and decided to put the falcon over them. The pure white falcon rang up into the sky in his usual manner, and disappeared into the clouds! Oops! We were both hoping to avoid that! The falcon was very experienced, and we determined that he knew what he was doing, so we went in for the flush. Generally, ducks are reluctant to leave the safety of the water when a Jerkin is over them, but these ducks didn't hesitate. After all, the falcon was now completely unseen. As the ducks proceeded to leave the area at full speed, we realized that the falcon was also blind to the events on the ground. The clouds were just too thick. Our only option was to yell HO!, and hope that the trained falcon would realize what was happening down below. Several seconds after that, the resounding WHOOOSH of the stooping falcon filled the air, as he came streaking out of the pure white sky! Needles to say, the ducks were as surprised as we were, and began to hastily scatter around the sky. The falcon singled out one of the ducks that was trailing the rest of the flock, and brought it down to the ground with the kind style we all dreamed about as kids. This was simply amazing to see, even for a couple of experienced falconers. The falcon happily ate his meal on the fist, and the day ended well for the duck, too, as we were able to release it, completely unharmed. I'll never forget that flight. Good times...
