Hey man I'm so glad I found this video I'm on day nineteen of raising a baby Sharp-Shinned Hawk that fell out of it's nest in our back yard. It looks to be the exact age of John's hawk.

I had a red tailed hawk growing up she was my friend after hurricane Irene I found her in some leaves and debree around my pool (Eastern nc in the woods ) anyways it took her 7 months to recover she had a broken talon and a broken wing and her left eye was bloody and I think permanently blind… I knew if I brought her to the local rehabilitation center she wouldn’t make it so I went to my friends house who has vicious birds like parrots and stuff and got some meds and gloves. I reset her wing with my dads friend who was a vet and we patched her eye up and washed it plucked some bloody broken feathers and put ointment on her tallon nubb (a year later she was nested behind my house with her babies it was awesome to see her everyday until I moved ……. The only downside was she killed one of my small cats and gave it to me like a present and I just had to accept it like thanks because she rarely did stuff like that and I liked her much more than my cat

A sharpie built its nest by my pigeon loft last year. I lost a lot of birds before I realized what was going on. I aerial netted my whole area where the pigeons can relax and fly outside the loft. The Sharpie was so determined to get to his food supply he tore a hole in my ariel netting. He trapped himself inside my pigeon loft. I easily went in and captured him while he was eating the head off yet another one of my birds. He was really mad. Too old for falconry I realized I'd have to let him go, of course. I drove him a river valley away which as the hawk flies would probably be only about 20 miles. I thought for some reason that I would be safe and my birds would be safe so I let them out for a fly. And he was back in no time at all and took out some of my favorite birds. So I just lofted my pigeons for two whole months and nothing came in or out. The Sharpie moved on to eat the feral pigeons down the road from me. It was a fascinating experience all in all. He would just wait till I left at first -to eat the birds. Then he started dropping them, literally 3 ft, in front of my actual feet. It was an unknown and exhilarating experience, but I had to put a stop to it. He has hovered over and glared at me with those crazy red eyes. Coyote of the sky. Or sky bobcat. All of which live behind my house. I'm pretty sure of it's gender by demeanor and behavior. I have a lot of cock birds and they are more ferocious, like this fellow I met. The whole experience helps me to personally understand how really very train able these birds are. I was like a circus ringleader. Every time I come out the Hawks would come in and make a kill then the vultures would fly by then the Eagles would be soaring above to see what was going on and if there's anything they should get in on. Knock on wood - I haven't seen a Sharpie in a while. That's probably more because my neighbor put their songbird feeder away. .... Anyway, it is time to feed the chickens. Thank you so much for your videos about falconry. I live in Canada and I live on bandland by a giant forest and a river valley that goes straight up into the mountains. We have a bazillion Eagles vultures Hawks and then all the bitey furry things on the ground right behind my back fence and in front of me by the sea. I'd love to practice balcony but I think I need an owl. I have too many birds to deal with in the day. But I love being outside at night. Do you think this could work for me? Regardless I am going to be waiting for an hour to show up. And a barred owl is too big and wild and crazy. In this land where I live, anything is possible. I think it's more likely that I'm going to win the lottery then find a baby sawett owl. (Sp)
