This falconry video discusses fears and stressors experienced by raptors that are not typically visually noticeable with body language. It discusses how a falconer should be mindful of, and address these fears and build a stronger relationship of trust with raptors.

I really appreciate your biological and behavioral approach to this discipline. I’m working on getting my Missouri permit and your real-world explanations have been invaluable in my studies. Falconry is the first thing I’ve ever attempted that rewards this level of intensity and drive. It was easier to get my private pilot license than get a falconry permit. Keep it up, sir.

Thanks, ben, nice video! I appreciate the philosophical discussions at least as much as the "factual", because insight is better than rote approaches to dealing with most situations, including raptors! Interesting, too, that birds are lineally-descended from 'reptiles', and seem to share some traits. I just had this vision of Ben, sitting in a big leather chair, pipe in hand, dispensing wisdom... :-) Right, only missing the pipe ;-)

Wow, Ben, a trained bat! 👏 😎 Thank you for your thoughts 🙏 I am so interested in bird behavior and enrichment for our birds, that cannot go back to the wild. As a dog behaviorist, I trained my caged birds some things, but the raptors require incredible patience, understanding and 😅 with some vocal Harris Hawks, earplugs. Your tips are wonderful!! 🥰 My birds are always, right near me, Keeko (cockatiel, out a lot!!! Bird first, species, second...must respect it's tendencies.......work with nature!! TY, Ben 😊

Thanks Ben! I listened to your podcast a few weeks ago about the perspectives of various apprentice falconers. Do you have any recommendations on resources etc. For someone who wants to start to get their feet wet, perhaps prepare for the falconry test? I live in Idaho but may be moving to Utah soon, if that makes a difference.

@@stewgordon9291 for shor thank you what would you recommend for a first bird an American kestrel or a red tail hawk I have game for bolth just is a bit harder to get new hunting grounds for a red tail but my sponsor has offered to transfer his read tail over to me.
@stewgordon9291
@stewgordon9291 3 жыл бұрын
@@billygreer5390 hi Billy. Yer 100% .I would take the redtail hawk. Kestrels are small birds mate and not going to take alot.in terms of game. The weight management for a kestrel is a art in its own and less margin for error .regards to weight management. You'll have more fun with a redtail Hunting. Better to wait and get land to hunt on with the redtail. Rather than rush it .as when you develop your skills more .you will tend to want a bit of scope on the game you go after. A Kestrel would limit that. Red tails are a good all round bird.. hope that helps

I don't know what happened at 16:49 but I imagine it had something to do with your segway into the various reptiles you've kept. An intentional cut or did you accidentally get cut off?

Removing a snake from its enclosure for feeding is a very bad idea. Tap train a snake, but do not move it from its enclosure around feeding time. Ever.
