Falconry: What to do if your bird keeps landing.

With hawks falcons and eagles,sometimes a bird will be confused about what you are trying to accomplish together and will continually land, to try to get you to call them back for a reward. This video discusses ways to help a bird learn the benefits of staying on the wing, and how to help them break the habit of landing when you are trying to hunt together.

This was the hardest part for me as an apprentice....that concept of ignoring this landing behavior!

Ben you have the best information out there in KZfaq. I’m a big fan of Cooper’s hawks and you are so dead on with your advice and descriptions. Looking forward to more of your imprint accipiter discussions. Right now my hunting time is limited but one day I want to get another imprint male Cooper’s which is my favorite of all.

Are there any species of bird used in Falconry that are particularly preferred for mounted/horseback falconry? If so, could you maybe go over them in a future video or just a reply would be awesome. Love your channel.

It is effective? When i fly my bird it always perch on electrical wire or land in the ground it is possible for your bird to remove this bad habit??

Afternoon mate just wanted to pick your brain please my peri/Barbary is flying to the glove but won’t come to the lure he looks at the lure and won’t come I’ve dropped his weight but no such luck please any advice

Eric P best book I’ve seen on kestrels can be found here: www.westernsporting.com/FB1046/american-kestrels-in-modern-falconry-m-mullenix-hardbound-138-pages-r.html Matt is a great falconer and his book is wonderful. Though I have different views on jesses than are shown in his book. If you go through my falconry video play list here, I have a video I did on how I make kestrel jesses. Feel free to reach out to me on Facebook and I can answer any more questions you have to the best of my ability. Kestrels are so much fun. But they are delicate. And you have to be religious about their weight control.

Hey.. would you do a video on record keeping? I am building a digital database on ms access and want to be as thorough as possible. What kind of records do you keep?? I should mention, i am not an apprentice yet.. but studying. Cant seem to find any logbooks out there to get ideas from. 🦅

If landing is new habits that is experienced sometimes it could be sick or gaining weight specially Gyr/peregrine few grams may largely effecting his interest in flying then its the call for the day skip the dinner and go home
